The Exchange Student

Bryce...

"So, you're going to Toronto?" Sam said as I bounced Bryce on my knee.

"Yeah, my moms side is there so we're visiting them. Then after a few days there on Christmas Day and Eve we'll be in Chicago to celebrate with my dad's side." I said.

"That's cool, hey if you want to see Bryce then call me and you can see him anytime. I bet as he gets older he'll want to see you more and more." Sam said and I nodded.

"Thanks Sam. Thank you for being so cool about this." I said as I hugged Bryce.

"I'm just doing what I think will be best for Bryce. You should definitely see him before winter break ends." Sam said and I nodded.

"I will, so what are you going to do for his birthday?" I asked.

"Well, I'm going to San Francisco tomorrow for the holidays so I think we're going to just get him a cake and let him smash it." Sam said.

"I'm so sorry I'm going to have to miss your first birthday, bubby." I said.

"We have to get going because of packing and everything but it was great seeing you again." Sam said and I nodded in agreement and I got up and Bryce stood up too.

"Give your mom a kiss and a hug before we go, Bryce." Sam said and I smiled and Bryce waddled to me and hugged me and then pecked my lips.

"Thank you Bryce, I love you so much." I said and he smiled and then Sam took is hand and left the café.

"So that's all that happened?" Kaden asked and I nodded.

"Nothing spectacular, Kaden." I said as I flipped through my magazine.

"This RV is so freaking cool." Sav said and I rolled my eyes.

"You'll get sick of it after you're in it for 5 days." I said and she rolled her eyes.

"So, how did it go?" Sav asked and I rolled my eyes.

"As I told Kaden, nothing spectacular happened. We just went to the café, had some lunch, hung out with Bryce, and then talked." I said.

"Are you thinking of trying to get like a little custody of him?" Sav asked and I shrugged.

"Maybe once a weekend every month?" I asked.

"That sounds reasonable, I think Sam could do that for you." Kaden said.

"Where's Thomas?" Sav asked.

"He's in front with mom and dad just keeping them company." Kaden said.

"You mean chatting their ears off?" I said and we all looked over to little Thomas just talking away.

"Your laptop is ringing." Kaden said and I got up from the couch and over to the booth.

"Hey Sam, what's up?" I asked as I saw his face appear over Skype.

"I was just wondering if you wanted custody over Bryce." Sam said obviously very nervous.

"Sam, I would only like a weekend a month with Bryce. You would have like a lot more custody over him." I said.

"That would be nice getting a weekend off once in a while." Sam said.

"That's all I ask for and maybe during the holidays bring him over in the afternoon or in the morning just to see him." I said and he nodded.

"I can work with that, let's meet up after your trip and talk about the details. Bring your lawyer so we don't need to go to court just a simple meeting to have witnesses." Sam said and I nodded.

"Deal, I'll text you when I'll get back and we can meet up then." I said and he nodded and hung up the call.

"Yay! Baby Bryce might come home!" Kaden said and then he hugged me.

"Why do you like Bryce so much?" I asked.

"Cause then I have a little brother to boss around and now I have a little nephew." Kaden said.

"Kaden... You will not boss around Bryce or Thomas." I said and he grumbled.

I laughed and he smiled too.

"Gram! Pap!" I said then hugged my mom's parents.

"Hi Tessa, how is my favorite grand daughter?" Pap asked.

"Pap, I'm your only grand daughter." I said and he scratched his head and I smiled.

My mom isn't the only child, her older brother has one kid and he's a 4 year old little boy so I'm their only grand daughter right now.

"Hello Savannah!" Pap said and she hugged my Pap and Gram then we went to go sit down.

"So Tyler's family will come in an hour or so and then we'll have everyone!" Gram said and she smiled. This is the only time of year where Gram and Pap gets to see their kids and also Thanksgiving.

"So are you leaving tomorrow or Wednesday?" Gram asked.

"We're leaving on Thursday, mom then we'll arrive at Chicago in a day if we keep on the road for the whole time." My mom said and my Gram nodded.

The snow is perfect to sled and ski down so we're going to the slopes with the whole family.

"We need a picture before we get messy in the snow." I said and Sav nodded then we handed my mom my phone and she took pictures of us and they turned out great!

"Tackle!" I screamed then tackled Kaden into the snow and he giggled.

"Dog pile!" Sav said and she got on top of us and Thomas joined in and my mom took a picture.

"Ahh! I can't breathe!" Kaden screamed and we all laughed as we got off him.

"I love you." I said and hugged him and he hugged me back.

"Now... Tackle!" Kaden said then tackled me into the snow and I laughed.

We then had a huge snowball fight and tackled each other in the snow too.

Until I got a call from Sam.

"Tessa! Bryce is in the ER and is looking for you! Come as soon as you can please. It's a serious matter." Sam freaked out.

"I'll be on the next flight out." I said then hung up.

"Bryce is sick and he's looking for me." I said.

"Go! Go! Go!" My mom said and we sprinted off to the car.
