#30 DELIGHTED

" Hudson.. My marriage is fixed."

For a few minutes, his silence was the only reply. Shafna knew that she was giving a hard time to him.

With a shaky voice he replied, " Oh !! That's... er... That's good. "

" No.. That's not good Hudson. I'm sorry Hudson. My parents didn't even ask me. They fixed it suddenly. I didn't know what to do. I just hate this. " Shafna cried with a guilty heart.

" I understand Shafna. And we already know that something like this will happen someday. You have to do this for your parents happiness. "
Shafna, " Then what about my happiness? I cannot live with that guy. "

" No one can stop loving a girl like you. That guy may take care of you more than me. I don't know. "

Hudson I don't want to hear these words from you. Please say that you can't live without me. Ask me to not leave you. Why are you being like this? I love you more now.

Shafna, " No Hudson. I don't want anyone else to love me or take care of me more than you. And you know that no one else can take your place in my heart. I'll better die than to marry someone else. "

" Shafna please stop talking about dying. I hate you when you talk like this. " Hudson told her harshly.

" Then what should I do now? I couldn't think of a life without you. I'll be like a moving corpse. " she cried.

Hudson, " Can you leave your parents and live with me happily? No.. You can't. I know that. So I won't ask you to do that. We have no other way. Get married to that guy for your parents. "

Shafna, " I'm hurting you a lot. I'm giving you so much pain. I'll not forgive myself for that. "

Hudson, " You're also going through the same pain. You too are hurt like me. Its not your mistake Shafna and you don't have to be guilty for that. "

" I'm sorry Hudson. I know sorry is not enough. But.... "

" That's OK Shafna. I know its tough to accept it. I'll try. Hereafter don't call me. That may help you come out of this. Take care Shafna. Bye. " He cut the call.

I cannot come out of this Hudson. And I don't want to come out of this. I need you. You're my life. You're my soul. I'm nothing without you. Only God can help me to drop this marriage act.

Shafna started praying to God daily. Only a miracle could save her. She was continuously asking for that miracle to happen.

Shafna didn't want to talk to David. As she wished, he won't call her often. Once in a month or once in two months, he would call her. The call won't even last more than five minutes.

She used to talk to him like talking to a stranger. She wanted him to understand that she was not interested in this marriage.

Shafna also felt that David was also behaving the same way. She was finding reasons to stop the marriage.

She told her parents that David was not interested in this marriage because he never call her often and he didn't talk to her properly.

But her parents were convincing her saying that he would be busy to call and talk. Shafna didn't want to leave this chance she got.

Only a month more for the marriage. Once when David called, Shafna asked him directly whether he was interested in this marriage or not.

At first he denied saying some silly reasons. Shafna told him to not keep mum and spoil his life and her life too.

Then finally he accepted that he was forced into this marriage. His parents too didn't give him a chance. He was talking to his parents daily to stop this marriage.

But they were continuously convincing him. Only because of their nudging, he called Shafna a few times. He said that his parents would never listen to him.

So he asked Shafna to talk to her parents about this. Shafna was so happy since she got a better chance to call off the marriage.

She informed her parents whatever David told her. Her parents got tensed and called David's father.

Shafna's dad's conversation with David's father started from clarification to argument to a good worthy quarrel to stop the marriage.

At last Shafna's prayers were heard. Her marriage plan was dropped. Shafna's mom was crying thinking how to face their friends and relatives and what reason to tell them.

They would create their own funny reasons and ill talk about them. But Shafna wanted to jump in happiness. She was in cloud nine.

She went to her room, closed the door and started jumping on her bed. Suddenly she heard some footsteps, so pretended to sit silent.

Her mom opened the door and looked at her sitting silently. She thought that Shafna was feeling bad since the marriage was dropped.

She showed a fake sad face but in ultimate happiness. She wanted to call Hudson and tell this happy news to him.

Next day Shafna called Hudson.

" Hello Shafna.. " he attended the call. His voice looked confused since he told her not to call.

" Hudson.. " her happy voice made him even more confused.

" What happened? "

" Hudson.. My marriage is dropped. It got cancelled.. " Shafna wanted to hug him and kiss him if he was near her.

" What?? Shafna is it true?" She felt the same happiness in his voice too.

" Yes Hudson. That's over. " she told him everything that happened.

Shafna was thinking whether all these happened because her marriage is going to happen with Hudson. Still she was not sure how it would happen.

But her hope increased after this incident. Her decision to wait for Hudson got stronger.

Because of this incident, Shafna's mom started asking her suggestions in marriage proposals.

Shafna found all silly reasons to say no to each proposal.

He is looking dark.. I don't like him..

He is fairer than me.. No..

He is so short.. Won't match me..

He is tall like a lamp post..

Leaner than me..

I won't marry a fatso..

He is like an uncle to me..

A professor... Boring..

Doctor.. No.. Hospital is their first home..

Businessman.. Too busy to look after their family..

Settled in Chennai?? Hate it..

Abroad?? No way.. I cannot leave you and go..

Etc.. Etc...

Next two years, Shafna managed to find all reasons to say no to each proposal. She waited for her mom to understand that she has someone in her heart.

She knew someday her mom would be ready to get her married to the guy she liked. Even if it takes years or her lifetime, she was ready to wait.
