Katherine's POV
I looked up at the tall brick building. It looked a little creepy to go in. I shot Michael a nervous look. He gave me a warm reassuring smile. He walked over to the door and banged on it to make sure nothing was in there. A few minutes passed until he opened the door and slowly walked in. The furniture was either really dusty, torn, or knocked over. There were a few bloody streaks across the wall. If shit held together and walkers hadn't taken over, this would've looked like a haunted house you'd see on Halloween. I followed Michael into the kitchen. We searched the kitchen and found nothing but a few water bottles and a few cans of food. Michael searched upstairs and I went downstairs. I smelt a very repulsive smell. It was of decay. I pulled my gun out from its holster. I carefully scavenged the rooms making sure I saw no movements. The decay became stronger as I got closer to a certain door. I knocked on the door and heard nothing. I opened it and found two dead bodies. They looked like they shot themselves. I was about to puke because of the foul smell. I looked around and saw dozens of cans. It was like I was in heaven and there were medicals supplies. Holly shit, I need to get Michael. I darted upstairs. Michael was waiting for me by the door.
"There...there was a bunch of...man I am out of shape. There's food...and...med-medical supplies!"
"Holly shit, really?!"
"Yeah, but. There are two dead bodies in there...So beware." I said in between breaths.
"Thanks for the warning."
"No problem." I finally caught all of my breath.
I lead the way downstairs into the storage room. Michael's eyes lit up. I smiled to myself. He was acting like a child who'd just entered a candy store. I felt like it was Christmas and that we'd have a feast. I know we wouldn't do that because we still need to save up food. We packed all of the food, surprisingly. There was a lot and we only had three bags. Well, two backpacks and a huge duffle bag. I carried the two backpacks and Michael took on the duffle bag. We arrived at my house around sunset. We agreed that we should keep the food in the bags for tonight in case we need to escape for whatever reason.
We were sitting by the fireplace eating some of the jerky I made. I hadn't realized how hungry I was until I eyed the dried meat. I figured this would be the time to get to know Michael better.
"So, how old are you?" I asked munching down on my piece of food.
"I'm 15, you?" He replied taking a drink of water.
"14."
"Cool, favorite color?"
"That's a stupid question but red," I state.
"Same for me." Michael was a quick eater. He had just eaten the last piece of his dinner. "What did you do before all this shit happened? I mean like hobby wise."
"I rode my horses. I read a lot. I played with...Teagan a lot."
"Hmm, I played video games and texted girls." He laughed. He always knew how to lighten the mood.
"Yeah, and I always caught the boys eyes." I rolled my eyes.
"I don't see why you wouldn't." I looked at Michael and he looked me up and down.
I looked away "We should probably go to bed. We had to carry all this home and I want some rest. I want to go on another run tomorrow."
"Okay, and I wanted to try and look for my group also. I kind of miss them" Michael looked at the ground.
"I understand. I'll help you find them." I got up and walked to my room. I shut the door and stripped my clothing. I put on a tank top and a pair of night shorts. Michael walked in at I was putting my hair up in a bun. Probably should've stayed in a better choice of clothing in case I had to run away or something but you know, I want comfort right now.
"Uhm, you left your gun out by the fireplace. I put out the fire."
"Oh okay, thanks for bringing back my gun."
He handed it to me "No problem. He was about to walk out my door when I ran up behind him and hugged him. I felt his heartbeat pick up its pace.
Author's Note: Hey guys! I think this is one of my better chapters so far. Just saying, it probably won't get any better than this but aye, confidence, am I right
