Louis was already regretting bringing Niall along this year. His boyfriend begged for Louis to let him come. Louis wanted to pay his full attention on Harry but it would be hard with Niall around.
Thankfully, they weren't fighting or anything this year. Niall was still head over heels for Louis and tried to always be with the boy. Louis on the other hand always found a reason to get out of the apartment and away from Niall. It was slowly becoming a one sided relationship.
Louis watched Niall talk with everyone around the table. This year, they all went to the restaurant for Jay's birthday. It was only the family and close friends. Of course, Anne was a close friend so Harry would be there any minute.
The waitress walked over, handing Louis his beer. He thanked her, drinking half of it in one gulp. He wanted to get drunk so he would have an excuse to leave.
"Sorry we're a little late. I had to pick Harry up from a friends house." Anne said, walking up to our table. Everyone greeted her and smiled down at Harry like he was an accessory. Harry walked over, taking seat next to Louis who had saved it for him.
"Had fun at your friend's house?" The older boy asked, leaning his chin on his hand with his elbow resting on the table. Harry shrugged. "All we did was play video games." Louis raised an eyebrow. "You don't like video games?"
"I do. But not all the time. I want to see the world too." Louis smiled, taking another sip of his beer. He looked over to Niall to see if everything was alright. The Irish boy was still in deep conversation with other people.
"You two are still together?" Harry asked, looking over at Niall. Louis shrugged. "Sure." Harry glanced up at Louis with a frown. "He doesn't seem to be making you very happy. You should be with someone that makes you smile."
Louis smiled. "Why do you care so much for if I am happy or not? I only see you once a year after all."
"Once a year is all I need." Harry answered. Louis frowned, a little confused. What was this 12 year old talking about?
The waitress then came back, taking everyone's order before walking away once again.
Louis stood up, grabbing his coat and putting it on. Harry frowned. "Where are you going? We didn't even eat yet."
"Outside to smoke. Want to come keep me company?" Harry nodded, getting up and putting on his coat. They walked out, both shivering at the cold night air.
Harry looked up at the sky, smiling. Louis watched him with a small smile, thinking about how cute Harry looked at that moment. He seemed so calm and at peace.
"I have something for you." Louis said once he lit his cigarette. He put a hand in the pocket of his coat, pulling out a small black bag. He handed it to Harry with a smile. Harry looked at it confused. "Why would you get me something? It's not my birthday."
Louis shrugged. "I thought about you when I saw it." Harry smiled, opening the small bag. He gasped, taking out a small white crystal carved as a star.
Louis had seen it in a crystal shop when he was dragged in it by a friend. Everything was expensive, including the star, but he couldn't leave without it. He was lucky enough to have a good paying job so he could afford it. After all, it was worth it. Harry's smile was bigger then ever before and his excitement was radiating off of him.
"Thank you Lou! I love it!" Harry exclaimed, looking up at Louis with bright eyes. They stared at each other for a moment until Harry looked down, his face going red.
Louis looked away, finishing his cigarette. They then walked back in to see that the food was already there.
Everyone chatted while they ate but both Louis and Harry stayed silent. Louis kept ordering more beer, wanting to drown the awkwardness between the two away.
He didn't find Harry cute like a kid anymore. He found him beautiful as a person. It was wrong to think such ways towards a child.
Niall put a hand on Louis' shoulder, making him look at his boyfriend. "I think you had a little too much to drink Louis." Louis snorted, waving him off. "You worry about your own shit and I'll worry about mine."
Jay sent a glare towards Louis, nodding towards Harry to remind him that a kid was still sitting at the table right next to him. Louis rolled his eyes. Harry wasn't just a kid. He was smart and understood things that grown ups didn't.
"You guys want to hear a joke?" Louis asked out loud. Everyone turned to look at him, waiting. "How many knees do men really have?"
Everyone was silent. Niall ended up rolling his eyes. "How many?" He asked. Louis smirked, looking down at Harry who was waiting for the answer.
Louis leaned back in his chair smiling up like a fool at everyone. "Three. Right knee, left knee, and their wee-knee."
At first it was silent. The table just stared at Louis in pure shock. The boy who was always quiet and closed off had said a penis joke out loud in front of kids.
Then, Harry busted out in laughter next to him. Louis looked at him, joining in on the laughing fit. They high fived, repeating the joke together and laughing even harder.
"Louis, that's enough!" Niall said, getting red from embarrassment. "Oh chill out Babe. It was only an innocent joke."
Niall groaned getting up. "Sorry Jay but I think we should get going." She nodded in agreement. Louis whined but followed his boyfriend to their car. He was finally out of there.
