July 17th, 2009.
It was just another day. My older brother, Mark and I, were just hanging out at home. Our sister, Abigail, had gone to a friends house for the weekend and our parents were out of town for business meets. Mark and I were real close. He had always been looking out for me ever since I was born.
That night, Mark and I were just laying around on the couches. The T.V. was on but we weren't really watching it. We were messing around on our phones. I was pretty bored and wanted to do something. "Mark!" I whined, dropping my phone onto the floor and laying upside down on the couch. "Mai!" He whined back. "I'm bored! What is there to do?" I asked. "You can go to the kitchen and make me a sandwich." He joked. I looked at him, no emotion on my face. "Yeah, very funny. I'm going to go shower." I simply said, flipping over and landing on my feet.
"Mind if I invite Adam over?" He called to me as I walked up the stairs.
"Do whatever you want Mark. I don't care!" I called to him as I entered my room and closed the door.
Adam was Mark's best friend. They have been super close since they were little and I've grown to have a slight crush on him. Although, he is Mark's best friend and he would kill me if I tried to date Adam. Every now and then, Adam would flirt with me when Mark wasn't in the room. I of course ignore him.
I started the shower and stripped out of my clothes, stepping in. I started to hum a little tone. I would always sing while I was in the shower cause showering in silence is awkward.
As I did my business, I heard a bang come from down-stairs. I stopped humming and listened.
I figured Adam was over, and him and Mark were being stupid and wrestling with one another so I continued with my shower.
After an hour or so, I turned the tap off and stepped out. I dried off and slipped into my pjs, which was just a pair of yoga shorts and a t-shirt. I left my hair alone to dry naturally. I stepped out into my room and sighed.
It was only nine, and I didn't have anything to do.
I had my room semi clean. My bed was covered with a bunch of junk, but the floor was nice and clean.
I sighed, running my hand through my now dry and wavy hair. I have so much shit.
As I stood at the end of my bed looking at everything, I heard another bang.
Turning, I faced my door and stared at it. Listening. There was another one, followed by glass breaking. I sighed in frustration, "Dammit Mark. What the hell are you and Adam fighting about now?" I breathed, opening my door and walking down the hall. As I reached the top of the stairs, I said, "Mark. What are you-" I stopped what I was saying as I saw Adam on top of Mark, punching him multiple times.
I gasped and went down a couple steps only to stop as Adam spoke, "Mai up-stairs? Should I go up and show her a good time?"
I slowly backed up, careful not to trip.
"You...leave her...out of this." I heard Mark grumble. Adam punched him right in eye, causing me to cringe and cover my mouth.
"Ya know, maybe she'll be the one to talk your dad into getting my brother out." Adam said, throwing another punch. Mark groaned in pain. "Your brother...belongs...there," Mark stated as he looked up at Adam. His voice was husky and rough. Adam stopped for a minute. "Yeah. Because...of what...he did...he belongs there." Mark finished, coughing and spitting what I'm guessing was blood.
