What happened?

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

That's all I heard, along with hushed voices here and there. I heard other machines beeping. My head pounding like a jack hammer, and my ankle throbbed. What the hell happened?

"Is she going to be alright doctor?" A voice to my right said. It sounded familiar, but I couldn't put a name to it.

"She is going to be just fine. Some cuts and bruises, and a severely sprained ankle. That'll have to be in a cast for about 10 to 12 weeks. I'm not sure how long she was on it after twisting it, but it's got a lot of damage." Another voice, I'm assuming the doctor, said.

Someone sighed, "Oh thank god. When will she wake up?"

"She should be waking up any minute. She may be a little confused due to the meds she's on for her ankle but she will be okay. If she does wake up when I leave, press that red button. A nurse will come in and check on her." The doctor explained.

"Thank you doctor. Thank you so much."

Footsteps walked away from my bed. A door opened and closed. It now was quiet.

I slowly opened my eyes only to moan in pain due to the bright lights.

"Mai. Mai, can you hear me?" A voice to my right said, then someone took a hold of my hand.

My eye sight adjusted and I could see everything clearly. "Mai." I heard again.

Okay, enough with saying my name. I can hear you.

"Stop saying my name." I mumbled, my voice raspy and hoarse.

I looked around some more. I was in a room with about five different machines that were all hooked up to me. "What the hell?" I whispered then my eyes shifted to the voices I was hearing.

Surrounding the bed was Isabella, Abigail, Alice, and Detective Froman. Two other officers were standing close to the door. I rolled my eyes, not caring for them to be here.

"What am I doing here?" I asked only to have a coughing fit once I spoke.

Abigail reached out, holding something in her hand. I looked at her then at her hand, seeing a cup of water. Slowly reaching out, I carefully took it in my hand and gulped it down. The cool, water refreshed my dry throat.

"You were badly dehydrated and you screwed your ankle up pretty bad." Alice explained once she stepped up and stood next to Abigail.

I set the cup down on the small table next to my bed before looking around the room. It was your typical hospital room. A bed in the middle, surrounded by a bunch of machines that the nurses and doctor come to check, with a small bathroom just off to the side. That could either be for visitors or whoever was in the hospital bed.

"How are you feeling?" Isabella asked as she took a step closer to my side of the bed.

"Fine. My head hurts and ankle is killing me but I'm fine." I spoke.

"I'll go get a nurse." Alice spoke up, turning and walking out.

Detective Froman stepped up, his hands in his pockets, "Why did you run Mai-Allen?" He scolded.

My eyebrows furrowed together as I started to fume, "Why? You guys were going to send me back. For what? For no damn reason that's what. You arrested Adam. That means I shouldn't have to go back." I spat.

"You ran from police officers Mai. Do you know that's resisting arrest?" He asked.

I scoffed, "I don't care what it is. I didn't have a choice. I ran because I had to." I simply said.

"Yes you did have a choice. You just didn't choose to take it." He said.

"I don't care. I'm not going back there. I'm not." I growled, locking eyes with him.

"I think Mai is right. She shouldn't have to go back. You have Adam right? Well, then I think Mai should be allowed to leave that place." Isabella spoke as Abigail raised my bed into a sitting position.

Detective Froman sighed, running his hand over his head.

"We had Adam. We don't anymore. Somehow, he managed to pick his handcuffs and sneak out the back without anyone knowing. He is a dangerous individual and if he finds out that Mai is out then there's no doubt that he'll try going after her." He explained.

"Then let us take Mai home. I know it's not the best, but she'll be safe there. I'll talk to Deacon and see if he can get a few officers to sit around the house and keep watch. And if Mai wants to go anywhere, they either I or Abigail will be with her." Isabella said.

"What? No way. I'm not gonna be a prisoner in my own home. Even though I don't want to go there either, but I don't have a choice do I?" I asked, looking at Detective Froman and then Isabella.

"You won't be a prisoner. It's only if you want to go out somewhere." Isabella spoke up.

All eyes were on Detective Froman as he stood there, quiet.

"Well Detective Froman. What do you say?" Alice's voice spoke up as she entered the room with a nurse and doctor.

He looked over his shoulder, looking at her before looking back over at me.

"I guess you're going home."
