PG [Angst]
Not really a story, more like me just giving up on life halfway. But there's a bit of Taeun if you want to read that. Fifth paragraph. Plus, if you think that life is unfair maybe you can relate to this.
Aimee thinks that it's highly unfair how life gives the pretty ones all the breaks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to the high school brochure, the teachers treated the students "warmly" and "with great care". It was said that the school was a "welcoming environment" and was made to help students "achieve their goals".
Unfortunately, Aimee knew first-hand that those words were lies. The teachers treated the students like shit, the students were mean and bullied anyone below their social rating, and the school itself smelled of sweat mingled with strong, cheap, perfume. The school was simply not worth the price of tuition.
The main problem was most likely students, from Aimee's experience. The students - at least the majority of them - fitted the mean cheerleader and dumb jock stereotype exactly. Anyone of lower social status than them - the minority - got beaten after school and called unflattering names in the hallways. The school was separated into two groups: the popular kids and the loser shit kids. There was no "in between"; you were either one or the other.
Aimee is one of those loser shit kids. She's that quiet person in the back of the class, the one that actually treats her peers with respect. They certainly do not deserve that respect, but she gives it to them nonetheless, because that's what she was taught to do. And, like the typical fanfiction character, she falls in love with one of the popular kids. And, also fitting a fanfiction character, that person happens to have a girlfriend.
Taemin and Na Eun. Some people have fused their names together to make some sort of portmanteau, Taeun. They're the dream couple that everyone wants to be, innocent and beautiful and perfect. They're basically the school's OTP. They're the star couple of the high school, the king and queen. Every word that they say is law.
Jinki, the top student and Aimee's only friend, tells Aimee that her crush is irrational and that the chance of Taemin liking her back is even more irrational. It's not an insult, it's purely fact. Like it's also a fact that both Aimee and Jinki are smarter than the majority of the school, both of them possessing IQs that exceed genious level. Jinki's hovering around the 175 mark and Aimee's is a bit lower, hovering aroung the 170 mark. But their IQs aren't the point. The point is the irrationality of Aimee's dream. Na Eun, the most popular girl and definitely one of the prettiest, outshines Aimee's own exceptional sarcasm and her high IQ. Jinki tells her that this is so because looks are what makes a first impression, and first impressions stick. Also, it's because people like pretty, shiny things better than smart, highly intelligent things. Jinki tells Aimee that if someone had to choose between a beautiful, dumb dog and ugly one that had already mastered all of its tricks, they'd most likely choose the cute one.
