Chapter 4

Riley's POV
"I'm home!" I called out to whoever was in the house after i got home from school. You never know who's at home these days everyone's out and about trying to avoid each other.

"Oh hi honey!" I hear my mother reply. "I'm in the kitchen!" I take my shoes off before making my way towards the kitchen. I go in and find my mother cooking something and Emily sitting at the table doing homework.

"Oh hey Em." I say to my sister. "How'd you get home so soon?"

"Oh Steph gave me a lift." She tells me and I just nod in response.

"Where's dad?" I asked taking a seat next to Emily.

"Oh um he went out." My mom replies not looking up. He never seems to be at home that much anymore. We sit in silence for a while until I remember about Chloe and James coming round.

"Oh hey mom." I begin. "I invited Chloe round for dinner tonight and James is home from college so he's coming as well is that ok?" I ask.

"James is home?" I hear behind me. I turn around to see Matty walking in. James and Matty were always good friends behind James left and I know that Matt's missed him a lot.

"Yeah, he's home for the summer." I tell him.

"YES!" He exclaims before running upstairs.

"So is that alright?" I ask turning back to my mom.

"Yes that's fine sweetie." She smiles.

"Will dad be coming home soon?" Emily asks. "He promised that he'd help with my homework." Our dad's always been the brainy one in our family. He knows literally everything. Me and Em always try and convince him to go on these quiz shows on T.V because we know that he'd win us a lot of money but he always refuses too.

"I don't know." My mom sighs.

"Oh."

After a couple of minutes of just sitting there in awkward silence I excuse myself and make my way upstairs and into my room to get ready for tonight...
