Legend Of Heru {HIATUS}

Chapter 5

The family moved to the kitchen and dining room after Keplin returned home. Kat was humming softly as she made lunch for everyone. I sat at the counter watching her cook and occasionally asking her questions. Julian, Keplin and the Alpha ( whose name I still don't know.. ) were speaking with the pack healer. Their voices were hushed which gave me some frustration. Were they speaking about me..? My mother would do the same thing when speaking with Julian.. They would stand a distance away and speak in such hushed tones that I strained to understand but never could and switching to wolf hearing felt wrong in this moment.

I sighed and turned my attention back to Kat. She was making simple soup and sandwiches, I watched her intently as she worked around the kitchen.

" Are they talking about me?" I asked

Kat paused and looked to me. Her eyes were soft and warm, her voice almost more so. "Sadly, I don't really know. They may give you a check over to see how you're doing. I mean, you've never been out and about during the daytime.. We have a lot to catch up on." She began working again " There's a lot of things for you to finally learn about this place." A small smile graced her lips as she worked. " I'm excited. Me and your mother are great friends. I was there when you were born and when you first shifted."

She was apart of my life? Is that why She looks so familiar? 

 "Is that you I see in my dreams sometimes?" I asked while running a hand across the counter top. 

She laughed, " Yes it is. Your mother said I could visit and keep tabs on you and to see how you were doing. When I became Luna. I was gifted with the ability to visit dreams." 

" But.. wouldn't that scare people..? I mean if a wolf showed up in their dreams?" I asked quickly. I leaned forward on the counter and took a sip from my cup of water.

" Oh Heru.. I don't do it often. Usually I will visit those who are passing, or who are very sick. Kids especially love having a creature to pet and speak with. I try my best to bring comfort to those who are going through a rough time in their life. " She was now setting food on plates " Foods almost ready. Why don't you go let them know?"

I nodded and hopped off the stool and walked to the huddled adults. They didn't seem to notice my presence.. I coughed slightly. Their heads turned to me and I scratched the back of mine. " Uh... Foods ready.."

The healer spoke. " Ahh, Heru. Its been such a long time since I've last seen you! How are you doing?"

I looked at him with cautious eyes. I don't remember him.. he's not familiar like Kat.

The Alpha seemed to notice my discomfort and quickly spoke " Heru this is Icarus. He was there when you were born. "

Makes sense why I don't remember him. I nodded " Nice to meet you again Icarus. and to answer your question, I've been better."

Icarus chuckled softly, " Well.. considering the events that happened today I would assume as much. Lets all go eat and we can discuss all of this further?"

The Alpha, Keplin and Julian all nodded in agreement before heading to take a seat at the table. Kat had the food already set on the table and was sitting down next to the head chair. I shifted slightly before quickly sitting near Julian.

We all filled our plates with food before we began speaking again.

The Alpha cleared his throat and directed his eyes toward me. " So Heru.. We've been discussing how things are gonna pan out for you not that you're out and about.." He paused " Icarus is gonna check you over to make sure you're healthy and then we will have a meeting with your family. You're turning 18 soon, is that correct?"

I nodded quickly. My mother couldn't keep tabs on my health since family aren't allowed too. Something about bias..

There was a slight shift in his eyes " Good, good. My assumption is.. you will be finally allowed to be out and about during the day. I will help you learn and adjust to this so you're not going in blind. We just need to speak with your family to see how they want things. "

" Do you know why they kept me away like this?"

The Alphas eyes shifted to Julian and then back to me. " Sadly, that is something I cannot tell you. Its for you and your family to further discuss and its truly not my place."

I sighed. So he knows? Why wont he say?I mean if he's the Alpha he should have the power to tell me. He makes the rules and decisions for everyone. I turned my attention back to my food and continued eating.

Questions buzzed around in my head and I struggled with trying to eat. Kat said that I had a lot to learn now. But what about? I put down my half eaten sandwich and ran my hands around the cup of water next to me.

Julian noticed my displeasure and leaned toward me " First lesson to learn, I greatly suggest finishing you food. It's polite. I know you have a lot on your mind but I promise we will explain everything, okay?"

I slumped in defeat before going back to eating. Kats wolf suddenly appeared and began playing with mine. My eyes looked toward her and she had a soft smile on her face before taking a bite of her food. The simple gesture called my mind and kept me feeling content.

I managed to completely finish my food, surprisingly. The rest of the group did as well with small talk along the way. The Alpha rose and everyone turned their heads to him.

"Heru.. Lets go for a walk, shall we?" He asked kindly

I looked at the others before standing up as well and nodding.

" Good good! We will be back in an hour or so. Icarus if you want I can either bring him to your clinic or we can do the check over here?" the Alpha asked

Icarus wiped his mouth with a napkin " Um, lets do it here Alpha. I think it would be best for Heru to be in a more comforting environment. "

" Perfect. Go set up in the guest room here and we will be back."

" Yes Alpha" Icarus quickly said before rising up and grabbing his plate and taking it to the sink.

The Alpha gestured to me, I followed behind him quickly.

" Well Heru, It would be my honor to teach you about this beautiful town we live in." He said proudly.

A smile tugged at my lips " The honor is all mine!"
