The Alpha opened the door for me and I quickly walked out. Regret immediately hit me when I was forced to block the light with my arm. A deep chuckle came beside me.

" You'll get used to the sun eventually, I promise. " He assured, then cleared his throat " So my home," he gestured behind " is located in front of the market place. Reason being is that the market place generally always has the most people during the day. The closer I am the easier it is for me to intervene if there is trouble. "

I paused for a moment to look at my surroundings. The edge of their house was directly connected to the market place. I watched as people walked past the entrance to the yard, occasionally stealing glances. My gaze traveled to the flags of wolves hung up about the yard and on the house.

" What are those flags for..?" I asked softly. The wolves looked like the ones here. All of them a stark black. Some had small differences but generally they looked the same.

"Those are the guards of this pack. The ones who work to protect everyone.. We have these to show who they are and to honor the work they put in for these people."

I walked up to a flag that was a purple fabric with the black wolf in the center. His eyes were an emerald green and he wore a scowl. I felt very uneasy looking at it.

"Come on Heru, we don't have much time and theres a few more things we need to discuss. "

I nodded as we began walking again. We stood at the edge of the market place and looked at the multiple shops set up and the people milling about.

"This space here is for buying and selling different goods. Often you'll find members of our pack who may not be fit to guard here selling products to help our funds. Many enjoy this spot as a place to mingle or for the kids, play."

The market was beautiful during the day. Many colored wares and foods were being exchanged at different carts and small shops. The smell of fresh pastries and the brightly colored bags fit in with the many people walking about. But the site of the crowd spiked my anxiety and I found myself moving closer to the Alpha.

"It's quite a busy day today.. lets go to the garden. It would be a better place to have a conversation." The Alpha rested a hand on my shoulder and led me back toward the house. We walked around the side and through a white gate.

"This area is primarily the Luna's work but I can't say I don't enjoy helping take care of it."

The sight before was something I didn't anticipate. Soft green grass was in arms reach with small stone trails that led a winding path through the vegetation. An assortment of flora and fauna filled the space behind their home. Red petals.. fan green leaves.. small birds. I ran forward and ran hands across the palms of one of the large plants before heading over to a bush of beautiful baby blue flowers. The small buds offered a sweet scent that tickled my nose.

"How do you mantain everything so well here? Some of these plants don't seem like theyre from here.." I inquired.

The Alpha had moved to a bench that sat before a small pond. I joined him as I waited for his response.

"When I first found out my mate was Kat, I wanted to do things correctly. We took things slow and one of the many things I learned about her.. was her love of plants. I made it a goal of mine to find plants from around the world and give them to her. We've since planted them all here and nurtured them to grow beyond the capacity of a pot." I watched as his eyes shimmered with a soft emotion. His gaze was fixed on the plants before us and the small creatures that ran about. "Its nice to come here and see our relationship. I remember every moment that I gave her a specific new plant.. this lets me relive everything again." He cleared his throat. I let my eyes drop to the small pond before us. Different aquatic leaves floated about on their vines, small fish danced between them.

"I never honestly expected to see you again. I haven't since you were a pup but I did try and keep tabs on you with your mother." A soft sigh escaped his lips. " Things will be a lot different for you, I still have much to discuss with your mother but you will begin some standard training so you can defend yourself."

I have to learn to fight? I can't do that.. I.. I don't even know people that well and they.. what? I gripped the sides of my arms as I thought about what would come from this. I can't stand up to those big wolves..

"Heru.. It's okay." I felt the Alphas hand on my shoulder. " I'm not forcing you to learn to fight, I just need you to learn what to do if something happens again. You're incredibly lucky to have only encountered rouges once. You will simply learn things to help prepare you if you want to leave."

This could be a good thing.. This would give us the chance to go off on our own and we could prepare for whatever troubles come our way. My wolf seemed to like the idea of training..If he trusts it then I guess I can do.

I offered the Alpha a nod but didn't say anything further.

"Julian will be training you since you're familiar with him. I'm switching him off night guard so he can help you. You're going to struggle these next couple days with the change in time for you so we wont start till next week. Lets head back inside to get you checked over before you head back home. I'm sure your mother is worried." The Alpha rose up and I followed suit.

All the energy I had when we entered this garden was now sapped away by the conversation. I wasn't excited to train and I sure as hell wasn't ready to see my mother again. There seems to be so much I have to learn and I'm just now at the age when I can leave and be on my own. How can I do that when my world has been black? I spent so much time under the rays of the moon and living among a ghost town when in reality everyone was just resting.

We got back inside swiftly and I was made to see a healer.

The healer had me in a guest room while he ran simple tests. He asked me if I would shift but I refused. If my mother kept me away from others because of my wolf then maybe it's best if I don't show it off.

I was quickly released from the healer and met by the Alpha and Julian. Both insisting to take me back home but I declined. I didn't care for company at the moment and I just wanted to get away. The weight of all I've learned today has really begun to put down my mood. I felt exhausted and irritable and just wanted to be alone. Shutting the door of the Alphas home was a welcomed relief. I let out a sigh before heading down the path of guard wolf flags. One of those is Julian.

I looked to the sky where the sun hid behind thick grey clouds. The change in weather had emptied the marketplace and caused the many shops to close. I was thankful for the lack of people and quickly walked through, choosing the many small alleys as my way home.

Heru.. your mind is not a fun place to be right now. Maybe some rest will do us good. My wolf spoke

I ignored him and his suggestion.

I chose to explore this town further on my own. My mother kept me waiting inside for eighteen years.. now she can wait for me.
