The small alleys between the houses offered nice shade away from the heat of the sun. I may enjoy seeing the world lit up but the heat was something I hadn't experienced much before. Is this why everyone is so much more tan than me?

I kicked up some of the dirt and sand as I continued my aimless walk around the town. The houses soon began to thin out and I found myself looking at an empty horizon. The sun was blazing down from above and caused the sight before me to falter. I looked back to the town before running off ahead. I let my wolf take over, the pain of the shift was stronger with the heat. Almost instantly in our new form we felt much cooler.

Being among the sand and open air calmed our worried mind but we still had things bugging us. Knowing that the Alpha, and Julian were also aware of what my mother was doing hurt. I grew up playing alone outside with just my wolf and Julian.. and even then he wasn't always there because of his job. And now here I am with difficulties being around people and feeling like I have to start all over again.

I was a ways away from the town now and I slowed my pace before collapsing in the sand. I sprawled out across the ground and let the rays of the sun soak our body. The sun was like a nice warm blanket across us. The weight of the day was pulling on my mind and I found myself feeling very tired. I let my guard drop and my body rest.

"I had a feeling you would be out here." A voice came. I flipped back onto my stomach and jumped to my feet. My heart was racing as I locked eyes with Julian's blue ones. I let out a sigh before lying back down again and shutting my eyes. That wasn't a fun way to wake up.

I heard rustling next to me and soon enough I felt the warm body of Julian. I opened my eyes slightly to glance over my shoulder. Julian was lying down next to me, his wolf looking elegant and proud. I rested my head down again.

"Icarus said your tests are normal and you're perfectly healthy. You're allowed to be out and about as much as you want. "

I didn't respond to him but I turned over to rest my head on his paws.

"I'm sorry for how you started your life. Your mother thought that it would be best for you and your wolf." He began explaining but I cut him off.

"How was it the best for me? You guys keep talking about how my wolf is different but how am I supposed to know that. I've barely seen other wolves and usually its always at night." I lifted my head up and looked at him.

He whimpered slightly. "Do you see how I look, Heru?" He asked.

I sat up away from him and let my eyes wander his body. He had a striking resemblance to the wolves that guarded the pharaohs at their tombs. The statues were fur black, with long limbs, tall ears, and an air of strength and nobility. I nodded my head after meeting his eyes.

"And do you see your wolf?" He rose up and began circling me. I did my best to follow him but I always had to eventually turn my head back.

"Your wolf is something that this pack has never seen. We've never had a golden brown wolf before and our most notable features are less defined on you. Your mother feared that the other pups would have made fun of you for being different. She wanted to protect you from having to deal with such things." He paused in front of me.

I found myself shrinking slightly under his dominant gaze and stance. His wolf towered over mine and it was notable that he was a guard here. I felt proud of him for the progress he's made since I first met him. I was only around five years old maybe.. and he was 10. Our bond has only continued to grow since we that night and I'm thankful for every moment of it.

Julian leaned forward and nuzzled the side of my head. I returned the favor feeling much more at ease with his power.

"I'm sorry for all this.. It was a lot to take in and.. I don't know." I whimpered.

"Heru.. please. It's okay. How about we head back to your home? You haven't seen your mother since you ran out this morning."

I nodded before standing up and following Julian back toward town. I picked up my pacing and let my tongue hand out. My excitement grew as we ran back together and I never wanted it to end. I jumped around, picked up my pace, slowed down, and jumped over Julian before knocking him to the ground.

He was quick to flip us over and pin we down. He offered a lopsided grin and barked slightly before going to fake bite me. I swiped my paws at his face and worked to try and kick him off me.  Julian bounced off and bowed down, his tailed wagging. I barked at him before darting off again toward the town. I could see it slowly growing on the horizon and I could sense Julian gaining on me. I dug my paws further into the ground to try and gain more momentum but it was pointless. I was knocked to the ground with Julian once again on top of me. He leaned down and licked my face before pushing off. I lay on the ground panting heavily as I tried to regain my composure. Julian barely looked fazed and simply stared down at me with his head slightly tilted.

I let out a huff and pushed myself up.

"I'm not as fit as you are.." I growled.

He let out a wolfy laugh before trotting off. I fell in to pace slightly behind him as we finally got back to the town.

An unknown feeling began to fill my chest as I gazed over at Julian. Something within me wanted to stay with him and to be there to calm his worries. His presence always seemed to calm me down, and I always felt that I was safe with him. I don't understand these feelings..

We slowly walked through town back to my home, occasionally stopping so young ones could pet Julians wolf. I stayed back slightly so no one would bother me. Soon enough my home came into view and I found my nerves spiking again as I stood outside it.

"Heru.. It will be okay. Your reaction was something we expected.. Just.. go speak with her and work things out.. okay? I have to go figure out my new schedule so I'll find you around. Take care." Julian nipped my ear slightly before trotting off back toward the marketplace. My eyes stayed on him until he completely disappeared from my sight. He's right.. I need to just go in and talk this over. I was never going to stay here my whole life and I have plans to travel. We need to sort this out so we can move on from this.

I lightly pawed at the door and waited for her to answer.
