The door slowly tugged open and the reddened eyes of my mother peered at me. She backed away and opened the door the rest of the way and allowed me in. I walked lightly across the floor and headed to my room to change.

The home was tense and somber. My mother and I rarely fought or had any disagreements, we usually were always on the same page so this whole ordeal has been weighing down on the both of us. I allowed myself to shift back and I made quick work on putting on new clothes.

I looked down at the stairs, my skin pricking with perspiration as a played different scenarios on how this would go. I took a deep breath and walked down the stairs. My mother was sitting at the dining room table, hunched over a cup of tea. Her hair was loosely pulled up and she had a crumpled up tissue next to her. She glanced up as I walked over before looking back and taking a sip.

"Hello Heru." She offered
"Hi mom"

How do I start this?

" I wanted to talk about earlier.." I paused for a moment as she took another sip, her eyes slowly meeting mine. "I reacted wrong and I'm sorry.. but that was a lot to take in and I didn't know how to handle it all. I'm still frustrated but I understand why you did it. I just hope that now.. I can finally meet others and actually contribute to this pack. I turn eighteen soon and I don't even know what I will do. I have so much I have to catch up and learn now mom.." my voice trailed off. My eyes dropped to the table and I ran my finger over the textured wood.

"I'm sorry too Heru. I shouldn't have done this to you for so long.. you deserved better. Things will be a lot different for you and it will take time for you to adjust to changing your sleep schedule. The Alpha has requested my presence in order to further discuss exactly how everything will be done." She took another sip " Julian will also be on the same page as you with adjusting. He has always been a night guard but the Alpha wants him to help you since you're so familiar with him."

I nodded, " They told me. I met with the Alpha, Luna, and their son today. They started to give me an idea on what to expect for the coming weeks."

"Good. I hope everything went well. Why don't you go take it easy today. We will continue school work tomorrow, okay?"

"Okay."

"I'll be back in a bit, Be good please."

She rose up from her chair and placed the now empty cup on the counter. She gave me a nod before leaving the house.

I let out a sigh before heading back upstairs. Things weren't fully patched but we will get there. I don't know what to do now. I'd prefer not to go exploring again by myself but I want to see everything.

I leaned against the windowsill and let my eyes sweep across the horizon. The houses of the town slowly thinned our toward the vast land ahead. I watched as people walked between the homes, chatting amongst each other. A giggle slipped past my lips as I watched two kids chase each other through the alleys. They both wore bright colors and wide smiles on their faces.

I continued to watch the many people before my eyes locked onto a familiar figure. Julian was walking toward the desert with two other people. They all lacked shirts and seemed to be deep conversation. The one looked kind of like Keplin... I squinted my eyes to try and see better. They all paused. Julian's eye met with mine and he gave a small wave. The other two looked up as well which ended up confirming my suspicious. Keplin stood along side Julian. His height was a bit on the shorter side next to Julian but they still all looked incredibly intimidating. I simply gave a smile before pushing away from the window and lying down on my bed.

The weight of today pulled at my eyelids and I soon found myself falling asleep.

I felt a gentle hand lightly shake my shoulder.
"Five more minutes.." I muttered before rolling over and cuddling the blanket more.

"Heru.. if you don't wake up now sleeping tonight will be much more difficult."

The voice was deep and seemed to lull me further into the dreamscape.

" Heru.."

I felt something cold dripping on my face. I swiped a hand up but it kept coming. I peeling open my eyes and saw the culprit was a wet washcloth. I glared over to Julian before huffing and sitting up.

"Could have been worse. I was considering a whole cup of water." He shrugged.

I just continued my glare, " What do you want?"

"You keep sleeping and it will just make this whole adjustment a lot harder. So get up." He grabber the blanket and pulled it off of me. I groaned in frustration before climbing out of bed.

"Okay now what."

Julian ran a hand over his face, " If I have to suffer than so do you. Come on, let's go for a walk."
He swiftly left the room, I shuffled along behind. I tried to rub the sleep away from my eyes but it was a battle lost. Julian was waiting at the front door saying something to my mother. I tuned it all out and slipped on shoes before following him outside.

"I thought I'd finally show you where I live. Usually I never had the time since I was always working when I saw you, but I am off for a bit to adjust and prep for my switch in shifts."

I mumbled some response, struggling to even keep my eyes open in the moment.

"Oh Heru.. want a piggyback ride?"
I looked up at Julian with puppy dog eyes and nodded. He crouched down in front of me and I made quick work to hop on. I wrapped my arms around his neck and rested my head against his shoulder.

The sky cried out with a loud bang and I found myself holding on tighter.

"We're almost there.." He reassured.

He began humming softly, some made up tune that flowed through the air. His body soft vibrating with each note.

I let my eyes wander as I listened to the tune. The sky was beginning to be cast over with thick dark clouds and many people were rushing back to their homes. It's rare for a storm to come by, and heavy rain could cause great damage to the town. Hopefully we only experience a small amount of rain and only deal with an angry sky.

"Let's get inside quick. The Alpha asked me to be on standby Incase they need any help."

I nodded against his shoulder. He walked up to a soft red door that led to a small two story home.

"Welcome to my domain!" He said with a cheer in his voice. He unlocked the door and pushed it open before carefully setting me on the ground.

"Feel free to look around I need to go check on something real quick." With that he left me standing in the door way. I turned around and was surprised at the home he has created. The walls were a soft cream color and were adorned with different works of art. A staircase led upstairs but I chose to walk further on the first floor. He has a small wooden table with two chairs and a vase with flowers on top. His kitchen was small but it was filled with many plants and spices. Can he cook?

The windows to the back of the house showed a beautiful view of the Alphas home and the market place. Must be for safety reasons.

"Okay everything is good. Whatcha think so far?" Julian was walking into the kitchen. He had a small smile on his face and leaned back against the counter.

"Can you cook?"

"Uh... not really. I'm trying to learn though." He gestured to the different ingredients, " I'm making slow progress but I know how to make some dishes now. I used to eat out to much but I feel like it would be better to start doing my own thing."

I nodded in understanding.

" Want me to make us something to eat?" He asked

That odd feeling swirled around in my stomach again. Something about him is making me feel so self conscious and worried about how he perceives me. I didn't know how to feel as I looked up at his blue eyes. I quickly brought them down again feeling my cheeks burn.

"That would be wonderful."
