Two days after Moss had agreed to be Finny's friend and the pair had not spoken. Not even once.
After parting ways on Monday morning, Moss avoided the charismatic weirdo at all costs. Finny was walking toward him in the hall? Simple, he'd take the nearest turn, no matter if it lead him away from his classroom. Sharing the same free period as Finny? Also simple, he'd just go to the library with Noah, a place Finny would never dare go. And gym was no issue considering they weren't in the same course and had different teachers. It wasn't that Moss didn't like Finny, he actually kind of did. It was more along the lines of Finny scaring Moss. Moss was terribly afraid that too much face time with Finn could lead to things he wasn't willing to admit to his peers, his girlfriend, his family, nor himself for that matter.
Finny tried his hardest to come in contact with Moss over those two days but his efforts were futile. Moss was the king of avoidance and Finny just knew it. And of course, Aro was virtually no help because it "wasn't his business," and Finny had "no right to expose him to anyone." Finny thought otherwise, and resolved himself to the idea of confronting Moss about his secret as a wager to be his friend. It wasn't that Finny was desperate for friends or popular kid's approval, it was more of a craving for drama and excitement, two things Finny struggled to live without.
"He agreed to be my friend, I don't see why he's avoiding me."
"Have you ever considered that maybe, just possibly, he never wanted to be your friend? And still doesn't want to? I mean, the way you described it you were being quite a pest, maybe he just wanted you to leave him alone, so he said whatever he had to to get you to leave."
"Why are we friends? Do you even like me? I swear, all you do is criticize me."
"I'm giving you helpful information about yourself because I'm you best friend," Aro pouted. "Don't be immature. If I didn't like you, I would've pulled a Moss a long time ago." That earned him an elbow to the side.
"You're so strange," Finny mumbled, "you're like, a weird mystery. You're so cold to me and critical but at the same time, I enjoy the harshness."
"Are you a masochist?"
"Do you even know what that word means?"
"Yes, in fact, it's someone who derives pleasure, sexual or not, from humiliation, pain, etcetera—"
"You literally are incapable of understanding sarcastic rhetorical questions, aren't you? Besides, wouldn't me being a masochist in our friendship make you a sadist?"
"Oh. Well said."
And with that, no further words, the boys parted ways. Finny was off to gym and he knew Aro had AP Chemistry that period. As Finny trailed on to the wretched locker room, he considered Aro's words. There was a strong possibility that Moss really did want nothing to do with Finny and told him they'd be friends to get away from Finny in that moment. Finn decided that if that was true, that was a despicable thing to do. And should he have found that that was the case, he planned on dropping Moss' bomb not only to the boy himself, but the entire school. Finny didn't mess around when it came to liars, especially when lies they tell involve hurting his feelings.
The newly enlightened and kind of disappointed boy threw his bag on the floor in front of his small gym locker. He recalled how far away Moss' own locker was, but could still here him laughing and joking with his friends. Finny couldn't help but glare at the ground as he hastily threw on some black shorts and a grey tee shirt. After throwing all this things into the locker and locking it up, he marched his determined ass towards Moss' voice, hearing it get progressively louder with each heavy step he took. He wasn't sure what he was doing, he was just doing it, and whatever happened would happen.
