Sent at 1:57 AMIt was safe to say that Finny was was shocked. Completely, utterly, shocked. After remembering that he still had Moss' phone in his back pocket, he pulled it out to see what was on it. Moss had an abundance of notifications on his home screen and Finny tediously scrolled down far to see all of them, and eventually landed on the barrage of texts from his coach. Finny felt disgusting reading them and could read between the lines. He instantly remembered the night Moss told him he was gay and recalled that Moss had said his coach's name was Brock. Brock, the guy Moss thought he was choking out. The guy Moss said he wouldn't be used by anymore, wouldn't touch anymore. Finny put two and two together and finally understood. Brock was exploiting Moss for sexual favors.
Brock would force Moss to get him off and used the fact that he knew Moss was gay as leverage. And that was fucked up. Finny finally understood and felt sick to his stomach, partly because of the harsh reality and partly because Moss couldn't tell Finny that himself. Finny felt more betrayed than when Moss called him a whore and a slut a couple hours prior. He wanted Moss to share everything with him, and hated that he didn't trust him enough to share such a vital piece of information. Moss had even lied about his coach, saying that he was trying to set him up with men, when in reality, he was exploiting an underage kid.
And suddenly, Finny was back to caring so deeply for Moss. He was back to wanting to protect and shield him from all the bad. He hardly cared about Moss' big spiel anymore, and assumed that he was lying anyways because there was no way he truly felt that way. Finny knew Moss probably liked him, and his response was just a defense mechanism. But he wasn't going to go running back to Moss, he was going to wait for Moss to come to him. Or at least he was going to try to wait.
Because his urge to run to Moss' house right that minute and give him the biggest hug of his life was growing stronger with each second Finny thought more about Moss being abused by his coach. Finny was never one to stay mad at a person, especially when the person was as important to him as Moss was. Finny wanted to at least text Moss, but that was idiotic considering he had Moss' phone in his grasp. That was an exciting truth, but rather anticlimactic because he didn't remember Moss' pass code. He knew Moss had told him at some point or another, but he couldn't make himself remember.
But that was practically the least of Finny's worries at the given moment. He was preoccupied with coming up with something to say to this Brock character when he marched into his office on Monday morning in Moss' place.
Moss spent the rest of his Sunday moping around his room with a blanket wrapped around himself. He tried watching television, but grew bored. He tried to nap but was hardly tired. He tried to listen to some new music but that wasn't enticing enough. He wished he had his phone but he was hardly in a position to ask Finny for it after he had just called him a literal whore. But he wanted it because he wanted to call Finny and apologize even though he knew it was a little too soon. Finny had essentially told him to kill himself but Moss didn't really care. He was more worried about what he had said to his friend.
