Bestfriend! Thomas x Non-Binary Reader

Your POV

I sat on the front row of the church, dusting my white clothes ever so often. I had doubted on whether I should attend the wedding or not but I just couldn't bear to see my best friend getting married without me witnessing it despite feeling that sinking pain within me.

Thomas locked eyes with me, fiddling with his tuxedo which he does whenever he was nervous.

Calm. Deep breaths. In and out.

The organ starts to play the wedding song that honestly sounded more like a death march to me, and soon the chatter died down.

Complete silence encompassed the church then the bride came.

She looked beautiful. She glided down the aisle, smiling at the guests present, hands wrapped around a beautiful bouquet of flowers which was the least of my favorite.

I turned to Thomas who took a deep breath in as soon as he saw her, doting with such love and adoration.

Ouch.

The priest started talking about the blessings and all the stuff they say when someone gets married, the bride rolled her eyes silently but stayed at her position.

I saw every move she made though I heard Thomas' mother scoff beside me making me look at her.

"For goodness sake it's her wedding day. She better behave herself." She muttered under her breath and you giggle lightly, Thomas's mother managing to lift your spirits up and she gives you a smile.

"You know dear," She starts kindly "I have always thought it was going to be you and Thomas here, you both have such chemistry ever since you were little kids."

"Mrs. Sangster?" You inquired, quite confused and she chuckles.

"With the years you've known me, Y/N, you always forget to just call me Tasha." she commented and you mumble a small "sorry".

"What I mean is, you and my boy always had this connection with each other. You never fail to make him happy as does he to you. It's a shame that he couldn't see how perfect you are for him as everyone does."

"For whoever wishes to object this wedding, speak now or forever hold your peace." The priest spoke clear and loud, I gulped and looked around.

Silence.

This was my opportunity.

I stood up with shaky hands, all eyes on me.

I received horrified looks from some of the guests in the room and even the bride was throwing a nasty look towards me but I only focused on him.

"I am not that kind of girl who do this. Let's face it, I would never ever interrupt a wedding. I apologize. But Thomas, I need to tell you this. I... I won't object. I just need to let this out." I took a deep breath and gathered up my courage, I saw him look at me with confusion and hope?

"I love you. Not as a friend. And I understand that you can't love me that way. I just felt the need to say this before you go on with life. I don't want to ruin your wedding. I'm sorry." I finished and I take a look at everyone and almost everyone of them were in tears. Maybe some in shock, betrayal or relating to me.

I felt scared. I felt alone.

No one spoke. Until...

"I-i can't believe this." His bride spoke with disbelief lacing her voice as she stared at both me and him. Her eyes turned to Thomas, demanding an explanation.

"I-i'm sorry."

Last two words.

I accepted it.

He won't and he can't love me.
