Chapter 4

I began to throw all my stuff into my backpack.

"Shoot!" I shouted.

"What is it Carmon?" My Dad asked from downstairs.

"My stuff doesn't fit into the bag." I said

"Oh for your camping trip?"

"Yeah."

"Hold on I think I have something." My dad said before walking out the room.

He walked back into the room holding a huge backpack then he said, "This was Mun- I mean Mr. Barrett's bookbag. We used it when we... went on a camping trip. Like you guys."

Now I wasn't stupid I knew that it was the backpack they used when they found Echo, but I didn't want to say anything to give it away.

"Ok thanks."

Everything fit in the bag including some extra stuff.

"Alright I'll see you later Dad." I said.

He walked over to me and gave me a hug,"I love you Carmon."

"I love you too Dad." I said as I pulled our of the hug and walked out the door.

I quickly hopped on my bike and rode over to Jackson's house.

When I reached his house I knocked on the door and his mom answered, " Hello Carmon!"

"Hi Miss. Angelwood."

"Oh please call me Emma."

I stood there awkwardly until she invited me inside.

"He'll be down in a minute." She assured me.

Jackson ran down the stairs with his backpack slung around his shoulder.

"Hey short stuff." He said

"I'll have you know I'm 5' 4."

"Well I'm 5' 9 so I'm still taller than you."

"Whatever let's just go."

"Are you leaving already." His mom asked.

"Yeah bye Mom." Jackson said as he hugged her."

"I'm going to miss you so much." His mom murmured

"Me too." They pulled out of the hug and his mom ruffled his hair.

"Goodbye Miss- I mean Emma."

"Goodbye Carmon, goodbye Jackson." She said as we walked out the door.

"Dude I still can't believe we're actually doing this." I said as we mounted our bikes.

"Yeah that was one of the hardest things I ever had to do." Said Jackson.

"What was?" I asked.

"Lying to my Mom."

"Yeah, but it's for a good cause." I reminded him.

"I guess," Jackson looked off into the distance then continued, "Let's just get going." And we were off to meet Brendan and Dylan.
