Days passed, and Ivan sat on their meeting place —the tree— and guarded it from anyone else. He was pretty fond of the tree; it makes him think of Yao.

Ah, yes. Yao. Ivan feels pretty protective over him for some reason. Now, he gets upset when he feels that Yao doesn't give him enough attention. Though, if he knew, he would probably say something like "You are such a child, aru." whilst smiling brightly.

His glistering purple eyes stare at nothing as he thought about his human friend. His honey golden brown eyes with that lovely gleam of theirs. The long, silky, ash brown hair that was almost always in a ponytail, and the way it shone in light. His short, petit figure, making him look way younger than he actually is, also a lot cuter. That smile of his; so vibrant.

Ivan wasn't only thinking about his appearance, but also his character. The fact that he still acts like a youth, despite speaking to be a mature adult. That he cares for his family deeply, even if they won't care for him in return. The love for kitties that he has, especially a certain fictional one he speaks about. How he still knows how to smile after going through pain.

Yao is also very knowledgeable. It turns out, he loves history and knows a lot about it. Sometimes, he'd let Ivan lie on his lap and he'd tell him about ancient history and things like dragons. Though, sometimes, he'd fall asleep and Yao would scold him.

"Are you going to keep staring at the ground like a complete dunderhead or what?" The rude, accented voice snapped him out of deep thought.

"Huh?" It took a while for him to once again grasp the real world. When he did, however, he saw the small, familiar face staring at him. Well, what had most recognition were his eyebrows. "Oh, hello, Arthur."

Arthur crossed his small arms and narrowed his eyes, clearly pissed off. "So you finally return to reality! I was trying to get your attention for decades!"

Francis rubbed his hairy chin, a puzzled look on his face. "Didn't we get here a few seconds ago--"

"Never mind that!" Arthur yelled, cutting him off. "What were you thinking of to get you into some kind of trance?"

Small heat crept into Ivan's cheeks. Looking away, he smiled shyly. "Oh, it was just nothing, really..."

Francis, then, had a massive grin on his face as he thought of what he could have been thinking of, but before he could even laugh his laugh, Arthur cut him off once again. "Oh, by the way, we saw your human friend."

His ears perked up upon hearing Yao's name. "Yao-Yao? Where?"

"He was heading this way." Arthur stated. So, Ivan stood and left them both, heading for Yao.

"Geez, why don't you let me talk?" Francis pouted, his eyes glossy.

Arthur scoffed, "That face makes me want to gag."

"But we both know you think I am dashingly charming--"

"Never in my whole life have I ever thought that you looked even a bit charming."

As he made his way there, Ivan thought of surprising Yao again. He never really sees it coming for some reason. He walked briskly until Yao was in sight.

Though, for some reason, he had something pressed against his human ear. Brows furrowed and wearing a frown on his face, he spoke quickly and angrily. Ivan, curious why, hid behind a tree, eavesdropping.

"Why do you even have my number? No, no. Delete it from your phone and don't ever call me, aru. Shut up! I do not want to hear from you. No-- you know what? I'm hanging up, aru. Goodbye." He pressed the thing with his thumb, and the object emitted a short beeping noise. He continued to fiddle with it for a moment and afterwards stuffed it in his pocket. Then, Yao felt someone poke his back. In surprise, he jumped forward. "GAH!" He quickly spun around and saw who it was that surprised him like that. "Oh... It's you, Ivan..."

"Eheh, da~!" Ivan chuckled, and his tail wagged happily.

Yao shoved him lightly and crossed his arms afterward. "You meanie, aru. I guess I should have seen it coming, though."

Ivan stopped smiling, replacing the look with large, curious puppy eyes. "Who were you talking to?" The protective feeling grew inside him again. "You looked mad when you spoke, too."

The other just shook his head, smiling. "It was the wrong number, aru." He gave the other a pat on the head before walking with him to the tree. Ivan was still confused, however. He did not know what he meant by "wrong number". He did not even know what was that weird, small, thin box he was talking to, etiher!

Well, Yao had told him about what had happened that week. About that time when he caught one of the grandsons of his boss kissing some tall, muscular, German fellow whom he had told him that they were "just friends". Also, when he met two men, one who was the older brother of that German, and the other who seemed to be fond of the boss' other grandson. He said they were extremely annoying and claimed to be friends with a fairy and so forth.

After that, however, Ivan asked him a question. "Yao-Yao, have you ever felt really protective over someone?"

"Well, to my siblings, yes." He answered.

"No, to someone who isn't in your family."

"Well," Yao tried to remember but couldn't recall anyone that he could feel as protective as he is to his siblings. "No, I haven't. Why?"

"What happens if you do feel weirdly protective like that? What do you call it?"

"Hm..." Now, he was confused. What did he mean by feeling like that? "Give me an example, aru."

"Uh... Like when someone else is with that person, you feel... mad..." He says as he watches two squirrels scurry up a tree.

Yao put his finger to his bottom lip as he thought. "I think... I think it is jealousy."

"Oh." Brief silence. "What causes jealousy?"

"Um..." More thinking. What does cause jealousy? "Love...?" He mentally facepalmed as it came out as more of a question than an answer.

Ivan's expression brightened up in clarity. "Oh, so that's it!"

Meanwhile, Yao was feeling even more confused. "What's it?" Ivan looked at Yao in the eyes, making the other feel slightly uncomfortable.

"I'm in love with you, Yao!"
