=Cat's P.O.V=
You never see it coming. No matter how many times you hear the words terminal cancer, you never see it coming. You think...oh, she has more time. I can waste a day and sleep in. I can not visit just this one day.
And then, when it happens, it's like a slap to the face. I don't know what I thought would happen. I guess I just thought, I would maybe move on. Cry it out and move on. That's not how it works, evidently.
Everyone grieves in their own ways, it's just how it works, but sometimes people bring it to a new level.
Fifty five point three million people die each year and about 100 people die each minute. My mom was one of the 100 people that died at two twenty six in the morning on Wednesday, October fifteenth two thousand sixteen. She was fifty one years old. She had terminal stage four breast cancer, and in that exact minute, she had a fatal heart attack. I was fifteen years old, and I definitely didn't see it coming.
I looked at myself in the mirror as my dog, Rocco, walked around my legs. Just the same old me, alone in a big house. My dad triesd to be away as much as possible, and my brothers all left, as did my adopted sister. I'm a quadruplet and since we were only 17, I got to see them every day at school--unfortunately. I didn't talk to them. Walking out was a stupid decision on their part.
After I'm dressed and prepared to finally go down the four flights of stairs it takes me to get down to the living room and kitchen, both Rocco and I quickly run down said four flights of stairs and go to the kitchen. Usually Rocco and I sit in the big window in the kitchen and eat our food, his being in his doggie bowl and mine being in an actually bowl.
"Rocco, eat inside the bowl-" I started as Rocco ate the food so it all fell out of the food bowl and onto the floor. "Never mind." I muttered and let out a long sigh. Rocco looked at me, a bit embarrassed and started to slowly chew his food. I rolled my eyes at his cuteness and got up from the window.
I set my bowl on the counter and traveled to the front of the house, where my flip flops were set carefully in front of the shoe rack. I slipped them on and grabbed my backpack from the couch. Rocco followed me to the front door and started the walk to school with me. I looked at him and he sat down next to my feet. He blinked as I looked back at the house. My house was sort of in a forest, meaning that there was a long road that led to the house that was surrounded by a lot of trees, which was weird since behind the house was basically a private beach.
"Bye Rocco." I scratched his head and he licked my hand before trotting back to the house.
I get to school fifteen minutes before the bell rings, and I don't even get a chance to walk into the school parking lot before I have to stop and huff at what I see in front of the entrance. My brother, the captain of the football team and the rest of his--lovely--friends looking around and laughing. Isaac Evans, the king of our school, standing atop his throne. His eyes dart in my direction, and I feel myself cross my arms over my chest and sigh of anger. His thing is to piss everyone off, and it sure as hell is working. I slowly walk to the entrance, making sure my eyes, thankfully covered by my sunglasses, always stay on Isaac.
"So Cat, I was wondering if I could talk to you about the dance next month." I look up at the source of the voice and see Roth, the wide receiver on the team beaming at me, he's from Tennessee and has the cutest southern accent. He clearly had no idea that there would be a football huddle in front of the school because my brother is shooting daggers at him with his eyes. "I know that it's not until this Saturday, but I was wondering if you'd maybe want to go with me?" He says hopefully.
