=Cat= (Picture of Jackie above)
It took me a full minute to grasp that my sister was standing in my living room.
I hadn't seen her in nearly two years, and you could imagine my shock at seeing her. She smiled, but all I could do was purse my lips as I tried to take it all in. She looked the same. She got up and waited for me to say something.
"What do you want me to say? Welcome home? You left, Jackie. You just took off when things got hard for you." I sighed. Of course I was happy to see her safe and sound, but it pissed me off that she just thought she could come back like nothing happened.
"Cat, I'm so sorry." She said. "Let me just explain."
"Fine, in the kitchen, alone." I crossed my arms over my chest as Isaac sent me a look.
"Deal."
I walked into the kitchen and sighed as Jackie followed me in. She looked exactly the same. Her dark hair still long, her dark eyes even more similar. Her tan skin was still just as radiant, and she was the same Jackie as she had been a couple of years before. I took a deep breath as she looked at me.
"How have you been?"
"What kind of question is that?" I retorted. "You've been gone for two years and all you have to say for yourself is how are you? Let's see, I lived my life knowing everyday you could be dead, or in serious pain, never knowing if you were alright but at least I knew you were happier without us."
"Cat, please, you need to understand." She took another breath and continued. "When your mom died, everything fell apart for me. She got me through everything, it was painful for me to live knowing that the people who brought me into this world don't want me, still is." She sighed.
"Don't you get it?" I asked her.
"What?" She focused back on me.
"What if your parents were alcoholics, or teenagers, or convicts who couldn't be there for you, who couldn't be the parents you needed? People give their children up for adoption because they want them to have their best chance." I told her.
"Cat, can you forgive me?" She asked. "All I want is for you to forgive me."
"I don't think I can just tell you everything's okay, because it's obviously not." I bit my upper lip.
"I found my birth parents." She told me, interrupting my train of thought.
"What?" I asked, surprised. Her brown eyes shimmered in the light and I knew she was telling the truth. "You found your birth parents?"
"That's why I left. They're nice. I asked them why they gave me up and they said they weren't ready to be parents. I have a little brother." She said.
"Jackie..." I trailed off nervously.
"I guess I just needed to know. I was grateful for everything your mom did for me, but I've never felt truly a part of the family, and I guess I finally realized you guys are my family when I met them. I know that it wasn't their fault, but they could've done more, and I'm lucky to have you guys."
"You could've called or something." I sighed.
"I know, and I'm sorry, but I want to make it right, okay, I want to come home Cat." She smiled and I sighed. "I want to see Dad and Isaac and Danny and Derek too, and Eron."
"I wouldn't bet on Eron, I haven't seen the guy since this summer, we ran into each other and we spent the day together. He's distant." I shrugged.
"Thanksgiving is coming up in two weeks, he'll come." She smiled.
"I understand why you left, but losing Mom, and you was the worst thing I've ever gone through." I told her. "So please don't just leave again." She nodded and smiled.
