I clenched my fists nervously and looked at myself in the mirror. I was wearing a suit and my hair looked relatively nice.

I had asked Cat out to dinner and she responded with an excited yes.I couldn't get her adorable face out of my head. We were going to a fancy restaurant, the same one as we went to with my dad.

She told me she was at her dad's apartment since her house had lost power due to the rainstorm. Isaac, Danny, Derek, Jackie and their Dad were having dinner at their aunt's house but Cat decided not to miss our date.

I sighed and picked up my car keys. I spun them in my hand and shoved my phone and wallet in my pocket. I took one last look in the mirror before heading out of my room. My dad was sitting in the living room and when he saw me his eyes widened.

"Where are you going?" He wondered and I sighed.

"On a date...." I trailed off, not meeting his eyes.

"With......" He continued.

"Cat." I said and he smiled.

"Have fun." He smirked and I rushed out the door.

I took the long route since I had some time and thought of Cat. Her chestnut hair. Her bright hazel eyes and her amazing smile. Every time I looked at her, I could get lost in her eyes. You just never get tired of looking at her.

It was a Friday night and traffic wasn't that bad in the city. I tapped my fingers on the wheel and felt my stomach drop in nervousness. It was my first date ever. As nervous as I would've been with any other girl, a first date with Cat made me a hundred times more nervous.

"Shit." I mumbled, realizing I forgot flowers. "What the hell, she hates flowers." I muttered to myself. It was true. I brought her flowers once and she was like 'thanks.......but I hate picked flowers'.

I was right near the apartment building Cat showed me once when I heard a loud explosion go off. The ground shook and I took my hands off the wheel. It stopped and I got out of the car. I looked up and saw that the apartment building was on fire. The top part at least. I raced through the stopped cars and went to the front of the building. I called Cat and bit my lip.

"Cat?" I asked when she answered the phone.

"Chase? There's a fire, I'm on the twentieth floor but I can't get out of here." She coughed.

"I'm coming up." I told her.

"No." She coughed again. "Chase please don't, I can't lose you too. The firemen will be here-" The line went dead and I felt tears falling.

"Cat!" I yelled into the phone. "Shit." The firemen pulled up and immediate got out.

Fire.

Fire.

Fire.

Fire.

All four entrances of the thirteenth floor were blocked off by fire. I coughed and fell to the ground. I got up, struggling to breath, and used my hand to balance myself.

No one else appeared to be on the landing, since only two apartments were on each floor. A huge piece of the wall fell a few feet from me and I tried to hold my breath.

I heard a fire extinguisher and then saw the firemen.

"Anyone else?" They wondered.

"Not on this floor." I said, my voice raspy. Most of them went back to the stairs as I coughed, my vision blurred.
