After meeting that jerk, I decided to go home and let my Mom explain herself. I sighed to myself. She pretty much sacrificed her whole life for me; I should at least try to listen to her reasoning.

I guess she tried to keep it a secret from me because she was afraid that I would get angry at her and ruin the whole thing. What could I say? I was pretty stubborn, but I still loved my Mom and I knew it had been such a long time since my real Dad died in a crash that left me blind. No, I hadn’t been blind since birth. I didn't really remember the crash because I was too little, but from what I've heard, the other driver was drunk and couldn't control the car - then BAM -the rest was history. I didn't want to think about it because it only brought pain to me.

My Mom, Mandy, was still young at that time, she was twenty seven and I was eight. It kind of made her go crazy; not only had she lost her high school sweetheart, but then I lost my sight too. The sad thing was, she had no family to help her. Mom and Dad were both orphans that grew to love each other when they met at school. That was why she had no other relatives. It was hard for her to teach me everything without my sight, and yet she always dedicated her time to me and I loved her for it. That was why I wouldn't stand in the way of her happiness.

She was thirty-five years old now, but from the comments I had heard when I walked with my Mom, I knew that she was . . . well, hot. It grossed me out when someone talked about my Mom that way, but I was still proud because they said I looked like her. That meant I was pretty too, right? Ha - I hope so! I felt myself blushing.

I knew I was close to home, because I heard Molly- my cute French bulldog, barking and felt her licking my hand. She was welcoming me. Oh my God! I loved Molly, but I hated it when she spit all over me – at this point, my right hand was the victim. Aw! But without her, my life would be pretty lonely. I usually stayed at home with her when Mom was working.

"Hey, Molly girl! Let's go home" I cooed at her. I could feel her following me through her footsteps and then she was walking beside me to guide me.

When I opened the door, my Mom rushed to me and gave me a big hug. "Oh baby! I'm so sorry. If you didn't want it,  I would have called off the whole thing. I love you so much. You are my baby-."

Wait what?? Called off the whole thing? She loved me that much? Oh Mom . . . you made me feel guilty.

Then I felt my Mom move away from me while I was still frozen in place. I heard her punch her Blackberry's buttons furiously and it confused me. "Mom, what are you doing?" I asked her. Weren't we going to talk about her husband-to-be?

"Well, I'm going to call James and call off the whole thing," she responded. Huh?

"Oh Mom, you don't have to do that. I was just mad because you didn't tell me anything. And there's only one week left to get to know - what was his name? James?" I felt my Mom tense.

"Really baby? You would do that for me?" She asked me in a disbelieving tone.

Huh? Am I that bad? Well . . . yeah maybe. I tried to smile."Sure, Mom. But you have to tell me all about him, okay? And then I should meet him! I have to know him myself. Then I have to check if he's good enough for you. If not, I wouldn't let you go!"  I kept rambling.
