Harry POV, cont. from chapter 2

I woke up in the infirmary later after multiple visitors had come to congratulate me and ask about last night. I was exhausted after everything. Cedric's death weighed heavy on my shoulders. There was so much I could have done. I had been zoning out while thinking and staring at Draco, who was across the room from me, when I saw him start to move. I snapped out of it but continued looking at him.

"Potter?" He asked bewildered. I couldn't help but to roll my eyes.

"No, it's your mother," I responded. I thought for a moment then asked him the question that had been eating at me. "Why are you here?"

"Panic attack." was all he said, leaving me to wonder some more. I raised an eyebrow, but he quickly spoke before I could say anything else. "What about you? I heard you screaming last night. Is V- Vo..... He really back?" My heart sunk into my stomach. Why couldn't Draco say Voldemort? I thought. He doesn't seem the type to do that.

"Voldemort? Yeah." His eyes shifted down and he picked at the blanket. "He is," I mumbled quieter.

He shuddered. "I'm sorry, Harry."

"Sorry?"

"I said I'm sorry. For everything. What you went through last night... I'm not sure what happened, but no one should have to face him. I'm sorry that your parents are dead. I'm sorry I've been such an arse to you, Ron, and Hermione. I'm sorry I haven't apologized earlier."

I stared at him for a bit. Draco Malfoy, the person who tormented me for years, apologizing?

"Harry?" he asked, looking at me with big eyes. He looked really nervous, so I quickly responded.

"Yeah, sorry. Just never thought I would hear you apologize, much less to me."

He groaned, putting his face in his hands. "Sorry.... Friends?"

"What?"

"Do you want to start over as friends? I know in first year you said no, but I was stupid then and rude and I like to think that I've changed."

I was quiet, thinking. He does seem to have changed, leaving Ron, Hermione, and I alone recently. I guess I'll give him a chance. After all, my mum gave my dad a chance.

"Ok."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

A giant smile spread across his face. "I'm very happy right now."

I laughed a little. "I can tell. You look like you just won the house cup."

"Just because you took that from me in first year doesn't mean you can make fun of me about it," he responded, jokingly.

I laughed even harder. "Your face though was so priceless. You were so upset."

He threw a pillow at me, laughing too. "Like I said, I was dumb and rude."

"That was only 3 years ago," I reminded him, raising an eyebrow.

"You raise your eyebrow a lot, did you know that?"

"I do now," I laughed.

We sat in silence for a few seconds before he spoke again. "And as for that being four years ago, a lot changes in three years."

"I suppose that's true," I responded, watching him. I thought he would look away, but he help my gaze. I took in everything- his sharp features that he pulled off so well, his pale blonde hair, his blue eyes that were sparkling in the sun shining through the infirmary window, the way his hands were knotted in the blanket, the way he slouched instead of being upright like he usually was. He was quite attractive, there was no denying that. We stayed like that, sitting in silence and staring at each other, until Madame Pomfrey walked in to give us a check up.

*Dinner that night*

"What's up, Harry?" Ron asked, sitting down across me and automatically reaching for food.

"Nothing much, what about you Ron?" I asked, watching him load his plate.

"Oh you know, just wanting to eat my food."

"As proven by the fact that you are already stuffing your face," Hermione said, joining us. "Seriously, Ronald. Don't you have some manners?"

"Hi Erminee," Ron replied with his face full of food.

She rolled her eyes and turned to me. "Harry, why are you smiling?"

I blinked and realized that I was smiling like an idiot. "Oh, umm.... nothing." I lied.

"Liaaaar!" she sang.

I sighed. "I talked to Draco today in the infir-"

"Malfoy?!" Ron interuppted.

"He's not that bad Ronald, honestly, be quiet and let Harry talk."

"Anyways, he asked if we could be friends again. I said yes."

"Why?" Ron asked, staring at me.

"Because, he seems to have changed. Besides, you never know someone for who they really are until you give them a chance. That's what I'm doing. Giving him a chance to prove to me that he has changed."

Ron looked at me for a while, and I held my breath, nervously awaiting his response. "Whatever, mate. It's your decision. I guess I might as well do the same thing."

I sighed and smiled in relief. "Thank you, Ron. Hone-"

"Harry, shut up," Hermione interuppted laughing. "It's not like he's offering to do all of your homework, he's saying he'll try to get along with Draco too. You make such a big deal out of these things, honestly!"

Ron and I joined in with her laughter. "I suppose. It's better to make it a bigger deal than to brush it off as nothing in my mind."

"Whatever you say, mate."

I looked up at Ron just as he moved and gave me a perfect view to the Slytherin table where Draco was sitting and looking at us, laughing along with us.

I think this will work, I thought to myself. This'll be a good thing.
