"Adrian. Put the gun the down." I ordered nervously.
"I can't. She needs to die." He answered calmly.
"Adrian-" Bridget started but was cut off.
"Don't Bridget. You're only gonna make this harder than it has to be."
"What the hell is going on?" Isabel asked when she came out. She was clearly alarmed by the sight before her. I mean who wouldn't be. One of my best friends had a gun aimed at her head.
"Why are you pointing a gun at Bridget?" Jonny asked confused.
"Because she needs to die. It's inevitable." Max speaks up.
"What? What are you talking about, Max?" Dylan asked her, the confusion rang clear in voice.
"Adrian and I are here on assignment. Bridget is our assignment." She explains vaguely.
"What do mean 'assignment'?" I asked bitterly.
"We are a part of a secret organization called The Empire. They want to save humanity and then change society."
"So why the hell do you need to kill Bridget?" I shout angrily. None of this was making any sense.
"How am I supposed to know? I do as I'm told and I was told to kill her." Adrian answers.
I take a step towards him and he grabs Bridget and holds the gun to her head. "Take another step and she will die instantly." He threatens. Bridget starts crying silently. I hate him. I hate him so much. Bridget hasn't cried in so long and he was the one who was making her cry. But I can't let my anger get in the way, otherwise she's as good as dead.
"Adrian please." She whispers.
"Do it Adrian." Max orders.
"Wait! I have a question. If Adrian is supposed to kill Bridget, why are you here Max?" Dylan asks her.
"Because." She takes a deep breath. "If Adrian doesn't succeed, I'm supposed to clean up his mess or they will kill us both. I'm sorry Bridget. I know it seems selfish but, I can't die when I've fought so hard to live."
"Well, since it is apparently confession time, I have something to say." Dylan says. He looks at me and winks. I'm surprised at the sudden realization. Dylan's stalling so I have more time to think of a way to save Bridget. I give him a silent thank you.
"What?" Max asks.
"I wasn't a part of The Empire, but I did live there. I hated it. That's why I ran away. I came to find you guys." He gestures to me and the rest of the group.
"Wow, both brothers ended up in the same place." Zavia says bluntly.
"Adrian." I start my voice steady. "When we were on the roof, you were telling me that you had to decide which person you cared about to lose. You can't kill Bridget because you obviously care about her. You could've killed her the first day you were here. Or that night you spent in the practice room. Yeah I know about that. Or when you when you gave her your mom's necklace. The point is you cared too much about her to actually kill her. And that means you care too much now to kill her. So do us all a favor and put the gun down."
"Please. Please let me go." She begged quietly.
"I...I....I...." He stuttered incoherently. We all looked at him nervously. "I....can't do it." He finally said. He lowered the gun and dropped his hold on Bridget. She begins to cry hysterically and ran towards me.
