Finding Little Parker

Chapter 5

I was getting Parker ready for daycare one morning when there was a knock on the door. I grabbed Parker out of the highchair not wanting to leave him unsupervised. I cooed at Parker as I pulled the door open. There stood a man I never thought I would see again "hi" he said plainly with a huge grin on his face.

I pulled my hand to my mouth in surprise before asking "Mark what are you doing here?"

He smiled at me "I was told I had become an uncle so I needed to meet this girl and child."

I gently smiled at him "this is Parker, he is all mine and Jaike's."

Mark asked, "can I come in to talk?"

I nodded my head giving him more access to step in, I lead him through the house to the dining room. Once Parker was back in the highchair I sat down in front of Mark. After a long pregnant pause, I spoke "why else are you here?"

He took a long breathe "I wanted to see you again, I knew you two would end up together."

"No, I hated him after you left but it was Parker that changed that, when Jaike and I found him we had to take custody and then we fell in love." I almost spat out at him.

Mark looked at me confused "found Parker?"

I nodded my head "Jaike and I found him in a park when he was three months old."

Mark thought about it for a moment "I was told I was going to be an uncle!"

I nodded my head "to Parker as well as the baby Jaike and I are expecting the middle of next year."

Mark took a moment to process my words "congratulations, Cam, I am happy for you."

I shook my head "Jaike should be home soon."

Mark shook his head "no that won't be necessary."

As he got up to leave I said "he hated himself for you leaving Mark, he for so long held onto that."

Mark shook his head "I left because I had my own family."

I looked at him in confusion before it came to me "you cheated and she got pregnant?"

Mark nodded his head not meeting my eyes "yeah she was a year below us no one ever knew, I am sorry for everything I have done to you and Jaike." With that Mark got up and left.

A few hours later Jaike came home throwing himself on the couch next to me. He asked, "and how was your day?"

I grabbed his hand gently kissing the back "eventful, Mark showed up and gave me the real reason he left..." I looked to Jaike only to see he had no expression on his face "...he cheated on me and got her pregnant so they took off together."

Jaike suddenly stood up and started pacing the room, I could hear the anger in his voice as he talked "all this time he lead me to believe that I was the reason he left and now...he ran away because he was having a child with someone else!"

I stood in front of him hugging him "yes baby, he was the reason, not you."
