I make my way downstairs for dinner, and seeing as how my dad is on time this time, I decide to tell my parents about me getting a job. Not sure how they are going to take it, but I pretty much have no choice but to tell them. I walk into the kitchen as the smell of food fills my nose and my stomach churns on command.

“I see someone is hungry today, what have you eating Daisy?” my mom asks me as usual, she swears I’m starving, when in reality I just don’t get that hungry.

“A sandwich and a banana” I say calmly lowering my heard as I reach out to take a piece of toast.

“That’s it? Daisy you need to start eating more! Do you want to pass out again? Your health is a serious matter, and you aren’t going to live off of sandwiches and bananas” her voice is high and since I’m used to hearing the same story over and over I just walk out of the kitchen nodding my head, “Okay ma, I’ll eat a cow for breakfast tomorrow”.

“Daisy, your mom is right, you are losing a lot of weight and its getting noticeable sweetheart-“my dad chimes in as he takes a seat at the dining table. Being scowled by one parent is one thing, but being scowled by two is an endless battle.

“Oh, hey dad didn’t notice you were home early? This is so unusual, is everything okay?” I ask with pure sarcasm in my voice, my dad frowns at me and his entire demeanor changes.

“I am your father, show more respect Daisy! The fact that I’m not here all the time doesn’t mean I’m not putting a roof over your head, I try my best to be the best father to you and Victoria.” his tone startles me and takes me by surprise; he’s never the one to raise his voice, especially at me.

“I’m sorry dad, didn’t mean to get you so upset..” my voice drifts off and I feel guilty, especially when I notice out of the corner of my eye Victoria standing there watching everything.

“Hi, princess” I walk over to her and pick her up; I know how much she dislikes when any of us argue so I know she isn’t all that thrilled right now.

Sensing how uncomfortable Victoria is, mom and dad put on a façade and start fixing the table for dinner.

Dinner was awfully quiet, and I hated that I had to bring up the fact I got a job and that I was starting tomorrow, but I needed to pay back Joey, and this was the only way. I figured I’d lighten up the mood a bit, before I just splash them with the bucket of cold water.

“Hope you guys like cupcakes because I’m working at Sweet Treatz, and my first day is tomorrow.” I blurt out quickly not meeting anyone’s eyes. Maybe I could have thought of a better way to lighten up the mood.

“Excuse me?” my mom and dad say simultaneously, I look up to meet their eyes, before I hear Victoria squeal.

“Yay, free cupcakes, yummy!” I couldn’t help but laugh and smile at how cute she was, but I also couldn’t avoid the awful look my parents were giving me.

“Daisy, when did you decide you were going to start working? And why are you telling us this now?” my mom spoke calmly trying not to lose her cool in front of Victoria, yet I could see how difficult it was being for her.

“Well, I thought I’d like to be earning my own money try being responsible you know” that sounded pretty good, and reasonable.

“Oh, you want to start being responsible? Fair enough, you will start paying the electric bill, with the money you make” my jaw dropped and I couldn’t believe what my dad was saying, I can’t pay the electric bill, I have to pay back 3 grand! I’m only working a part time I’m not even sure how much I’m going to make! My head was spinning and I could feel my face get hot. I looked back at my parents and saw the smile on their faces; it was just adding to the fire that was building in my head.
