Chapter 17

“You are heartless Daisy, didn’t even shed a tear during the funeral”

“It’s all your fault your brother is dead”

“Seems like you couldn’t keep your promise”

“Lost one, lost two now”

“This is our little secret okay Daisy?”

I woke up gasping for air, my heart thrashing and my forehead trickling with sweat; I was panting hard until I calmed myself down and leveled my breathing. I had a nightmare once again and all I could here was everybody’s opinions and how much they thought I was a horrific person. I pulled my knees up to my chest and rocked myself slowly, mumbling “It was just a dream; it was just a dream...” I was able to calm down after several minutes; it was already 5pm and I knew Joey was going to be picking me up around 8.

I got out of bed and decided to let out some stress by going for a jog. I changed into my workout clothes and made my way out the door. I was too overwhelmed with everything that was going on; all I could think about was everybody’s opinion of me, the secret I was supposed to keep with dad, and how much I missed Jaiden. I jogged several blocks, increasing my speed and obstructing everything out of my mind, I started to speed up even more, feeling the light breeze and the blazing sun in my face. I started to run, and run and kept running until I couldn’t feel any more pain, my heart was pummeling and my lungs were on fire, I was sweating profusely feeling as the sweat seeped down my back. I didn’t bring any water so my mouth was as dry as the Sahara desert, but I didn’t care it felt good in an odd way, it was my way of punishing myself for everything that happened. My vision started to blur and all I could focus on was a small tree that was coming up ahead. I started wheezing, feeling as though I couldn’t breathe anymore, but I kept running, faster with each step, until my vision went black and I found myself falling backwards onto the hard concrete floor.

“Hello, can you see me?” “Hello? Can you hear me, what’s your name?” I heard a faint voice far away; I started to open my eyes deliberately trying to register the image in front of me.

“Oh my goodness, thank goodness you are awake, drink some water,” the petite girl instructed me to do as she handed me a bottle of water, I was hesitant to take it I mean , this random stranger finds me on the floor and is offering me water, for all I know she could want to drug me or something.

“The bottle is sealed, don’t worry” she said comprehending what I must have been thinking, I take the water bottle and guzzle down the water, feeling my throat relax as the water started flowing down my throat. I drank the entire water bottle in less than two minutes. The girl looked at me and smiled.

“I’m glad you are okay, you passed out from dehydration, luckily I saw you and was able to I come in time. I’m Jenny, nice to meet you.” I sat up straight and took another good look at her; she was about my age, tall and skinny with short brown hair.
