Her crimson lips involuntary made their way onto my chapped lips, she hastily ran her fingers through my hair and pulled me closer adjusting myself on top of her. I could taste the liquor she had been drinking and from only the smell of it I was already starting to get dizzy. I pushed her back making her head bang on the seat as I detached my lips from hers.
“What the hell is wrong with you Penelope!” I looked into her coffee glimmering eyes; she was biting her bottom lip with a slim smirk that said it all. “Oh come on Daisy, I was trying to have a little fun” her words were careless and it ignited the fuel in me, I had made it clear that I had no attraction to girls so why was she forcing herself onto me like that?
“I came to this party with you so I could be a good friend and look out for you, I had no other reason for coming here, but seeing as how you are acting I think we should just end our friendship here.” I made my way back to the driver’s seat and drove off to her house. The silence was eerie, the radio wasn’t on we didn’t have the windows down nor did we speak, the only noticeable sound was the clicking of the turn signals. At least I had the time to myself so I could forget what had just happened. I could see from my peripheral vision that she was staring out the window, curled up while hugging her knees. Part of me didn’t understand her, she was random at times and normal during others, like if something was, making her do these things.
My eyes were slowly closing, I was doing everything in me to stay awake, but the silence was just adding to my stagnation. It was almost one in the morning, much past the time I’m usually awake. I was yawning constantly, I could feel my body shut down but my mind was telling me to stay alert, we were close, about 20 minutes max, but the long stretch road was making this trip feel dreadful. I turned to look at Penelope again, considering we make some conversation so I didn’t fall asleep, but when I look at her I see she had already fallen into a subtle siesta. I focused my attention back to the road, increasing my speed just a bit, I opened my eyes wide and forced myself to just look ahead, but the road was becoming blurrier and my vision was fading it seemed like everything was moving yet there were no cars ahead of me. I started to panic, I blinked several times to adjust my sight, please let us get to her house I would mumble every few seconds. I could see the passing trees and the familiar surroundings indicating we were certainly close, and then I hear a soft mutter coming from Penelope, it was barely audible and I wouldn’t have been able to hear it if I had the windows down, or if had the radio on, but I did hear it and I could understand her unmistakably just as the word left her lips and reached my ears.
“Jaiden”
She spoke the word ever so gently, so effortlessly as my heart was tugged the second she said it, I couldn’t come to a conclusion as to why she would mention my brother’s name why she would even have reference to it, I had never mention my brother to her, nor had I told her I even had a brother. We reached her house shortly after and my thoughts were completely distorted, I wanted to ask her, I wanted to know why and how she knew my brother I had so many questions in my head, already prepared but I couldn’t summon to ask even one.
I walked over to the passenger side, gently tapping her shoulder to wake her up. She groaned and positioned herself into a better sleeping position not understanding that we had reached her house already.
“Penelope, we are at your house, you have to get inside and I have to get home” I whispered to her, hoping she would come to her senses and make an effort to get up. She turned to me and looked me in the eyes with pure confusion. She managed to get up and stumble a few times but luckily we got to her front door in no time. I made sure she opened the door to her house before I left; I wanted to make sure she was safe even though I didn’t want to see her after tonight.
“Goodnight Penelope, get some sleep” I said to her as I gave her a quick pat on the back, but before I could turn around she grabbed my back and softly whispered into my ear “I’m sorry you’re so naïve Daisy”.
