There was shuffling as the firm, warm body next to me moved and then disappeared completely. I reached my hand out grasping my fingers trying to pull the figure back to me. I whined, unable to find it.

"Shh," a soft hand came down, brushing the hair from my face. "Go back to sleep, love."

I opened my eyes, seeing the gorgeous face in front of me. Harry's curls were messy on top of his head and even in the dark his green eyes shown down at me as he lent over the edge of the bed.

"What are you doing?" I asked groggily.

"I'm just going to the bathroom, I'll be right back. I promise. Now go back to sleep."

I felt uneasy as I nodded and sunk lower into the soft, navy blue sheets. I heard his quiet footsteps as he exited the room.

I waited there, unable to sleep being there alone. After about fifteen minutes, I decided to see what was taking him so long. Swinging my feet over the bed I stood up and tiptoed down the hall. When I reached the bathroom, all I saw was pitch black. An empty room and no sign of Harry.

I turned in the other direction, walking toward the kitchen and living room area. Again it was dark and no sign of Harry. I stood there, confused. Where could he have gone?

I sat down on the black couch pulling my knees to my legs and sitting there, staring at the wall. I sat like that for 2 hours, still seeing no sign if Harry anywhere in the house until I finally fell asleep.

There was the sound of a door shutting and I jolted awake. Harry was standing there, back turned to me as he shut the door and locked it. He was wearing jeans and a dark hoodie with the hood lifted over his head, some curls escaping the side.

Slowly, he turned around, jumping a little when he saw me sitting there. He smiled, but then stopped when he saw the upset look on my face.

"Where were you?"

He held up a brown paper bag. "I got us some Starbucks."

"You know that's not what I mean."

He watched me, waiting for my next words as he ignored my question.

"You've been gone since 5 am. I waited for 2 hours for you to come back before I fell back asleep."

Sliding the hood off his head, he headed toward the large island, completely ignoring my question.

Frustrated, I stood up and grabbed his shoulders forcing him to look at me. His eyes were full of guilt as he stared down at me unsure of what to say.

"I'm sorry." He whispered.

"Don't apologize, just tell me."

His gaze fell to the floor.

I sighed, turning my head to where his hand rested to the counter. I noticed how tightly his fingers were gripped on the inside of the long sleeve, covering his hand. I reached for his hand, bringing his covered knuckles to my face. He quickly pulled his hand back and walked away from me.

"What did you do?" I asked even though I already knew. Without even seeing I knew what was beneath the thin material of his sleeve.

Shaking his head, Harry stalked off down the hall and into the bathroom where I heard the sound of running water. Taking a breathe I followed him down the hall through the open door of the bathroom.

Before even looking in, i knew what i was about to see. Harry stood before me, cold water rinsing the nearly dry blood from his cut up knuckles. He ignoring my presence as I stood quietly watching.

"I suppose you're not even going to tell me what happen." I mumbled.

He stood straight grabbing the towel and drying his hands. Standing in front of me he glared down into my eyes. "Move."

"Just talk to me."

He closed his eyes, frustrated. "Move or I'll move you."

"Why won't you just tell me what going on?" I begged desperately.

"Because I don't fucking want to Alyssa!" He yelled, shocking me. "When will you get that this is none of your business? It has nothing to do with you so why the fuck do you want to know so badly?!"

I felt shocked by his words and instantly felt ten times smaller. "I want to help. I just care-"

"We'll stop! You can't help because you don't understand. Stay out of my business. You're not a part of this and you're not a part of my life. You're nothing to me."

His last words were like a knife in my heart. I stood there , confused and slightly embarrassed that I'd thought he actually cared.

I turned on my heel walking down the hall.

"Alyssa, wait. I'm sorry, I didn't mean that."

I ignored him as I continued to walk to the door. I felt his gentle grip grab my wrist.

"I'm sorry."

I shook my head. "I have to go."

His grip was released as I pulled away and walked out the door without another word.

Realizing I had to walk home I headed down the street, a million thoughts racing through my head. Harry's words had more of an effect on me then they probably should. But I didn't get it. The night before he had told me how important I had become to him and now he was saying I was nothing to him.

All I had wanted was for him to tell me what was going on. I couldn't completely trust harry and be comfortable with him until I found out what his dark secrets were. One thing I knew for sure, Harry's life as is was built on dark secrets. And he defiantly had more then one.

Harry's POV

What had I done? In a matter of five minutes I fucked everything up. I just wanted to keep her safe. I hadn't wanted to drag her into the mess that was my life. It was too much. Too much for her to handle and I knew that. She didn't know the secrets of my life and that's how I intended on keeping it. But how do I do that and still keep her? That was my million dollar question.

Telling her what she wanted to know meant putting her in danger. And that wasn't something I could risk.
