"Jonathan. It's Alyssa."
"Well, well, I can't say I'm not surprised." His voice cut through me like ice. It was ruthless and unforgiving, just like the monster that he was. "Does your dear Harry know that you're disobeying his precious rules at the moment?"
"No." I said, attempting to keep my voice firm. I was starting to feel my hands shake as I spoke to him. Was I really about to do this?
"Well then, what is it that caused you to go behind dear Harry's back?"
I gulped. "I can't take this anymore, and I don't think he can either. I just want this over."
"Are you saying what I think you're saying? You're giving up? I may have underestimated your love for him, Alyssa."
I tried my best to steady my breathing as he spoke. I couldn't give away any sign of fear even though the sensible part of my brain was screaming at me to hang up now.
"I can be a reasonable man. That's what you want isn't it, a reasoning?" His tone was mocking yet serious.
"Yes."
"I'm sure you know my plan. Make Harry watch and suffer as I kill you. But, we can alter that a bit if you, of course, do something for me in return."
I felt my heart rate speed up, I knew what was coming. "What?"
"I won't make Harry watch, maybe I'll just send him a picture or something stupid like that. We can keep this between the two of us. That means quick, easy, and no Harry. But, you have to come to me. Now."
I thought for a moment. I could hang up now, wake Harry and we could leave. We could continue running in fear of being caught and killed. But we would have each other to keep us sane.
Or, I could go now and get this over with. No more fear. No more stress. It would be over. Harry wouldn't have to see and it would take away that burden. I could make this easier for him. I could end it.
"Alyssa? What's it going to be?"
I took a breathe. "Where do I have to go?"
After Jonathan recited the address of the abandoned warehouse I was to go to, I hung up the phone. I pulled on the pair of leggings I had left in the bathroom, and my dark hoodie. I looked back at my reflection in the mirror, thinking this was the last time I would see this girl. The one with tears streaming down her cheeks for the broken boy she was unconditionally in love with. The girl who would do anything for the boy sleeping in the room next to her. Even if it meant meeting her death.
I wiped the tears from my cheeks, stood up straighter, and pulled my hair from my face. It was time for me grow up, to stop crying and do something.
I, as quietly as I could, opened the door of the bathroom and stepped out. I saw Harry sprawled out on his back on the bed. It brought more tears to my eyes thinking this would be the last time I saw him. I had to turn away to pull on my converse and see properly. Just as I was about to exit the room, I heard Harry.
"What are you doing now?"
Dammit, I should've known he wouldn't go back to sleep that easily without me.
"Um, there was no more soap in the bathroom. I was just going to grab some from the maids."
He sat up completely. "Can't it wait until morning?"
"No."
"We'll, I'll go with you." He was about to stand up, but I rushed over to him and pushed him back down.
"No, it's fine I'll get it. You're not even dressed, it'll only take me a second. Just go back to sleep."
Even in the dark, I could almost picture the skeptical look on his face. "You know I don't like you going anywhere alone."
