Harry and I stood on the front step of Liam's large, two story house. He gripped my hand protectively as he turned the knob of the glass door. Slightly behind him, I followed, stepping into the seemingly empty house.
It was a nice place, lit with natural light from the tall windows lining the walls. The few wall space there was, was lined with classical looking paintings and pieces of art.
"Harry, you guys are here." Liam said, stepping from the wooden door leading to stairs that went below the foundation of the house.
"Where is he?" Harry asked, his fingers squeezing mine tighter.
Liam nodded to the door he had just appeared from. "Downstairs."
Harry took a step forward, stopping when Liam stood in his way.
"Look harry, he's a little nervous-"
"He fucking should be!"
Liam glared at Harry before continuing. "If we want to get any answers from him, you need to stay calm. If he thinks we're going to hurt him, he won't talk." He took a breathe before speaking, preparing himself for Harry's reaction. "Maybe you should let her go alone."
There a moment of an eerie silence, all of us knowing what he would say.
Harry laughed sarcastically before saying. "Good one Liam, now get out of my way."
"I'm serious, harry." He said, placing his body in the doorframe. "Just your presence is enough to terrify him. If he says something you don't like and you attack him, we'll get nothing."
"And that's why I need to be there, so he doesn't say something to her that'll piss me off."
"Harry, this is serious!"
"And so am I Liam!"
I felt like I needed to jump in, saying it would be fine if I went alone. So, holding his arm close to me I said, "Harry, just let me go, I'll be fine."
He looked down at me warningly.
"Please, it's-"
"Stop."
I sighed, knowing I would never win with him and turned back to Liam.
He stepped from the doorframe. "Go on then. Just remember what I said."
I walked with Harry's hand in mine down the stairs into the furnished and carpeted basement. I immediately saw the man from behind the bar sitting on one of the recliners by the couch. Seeing him fully I noticed how small he actually was, probably standing only a few inches over my short frame.
I felt Harry's hand squeeze mine tighter as he looked directly at us. Louis and zayn were sitting on the couch beside him and turned to see what he was looking at.
"Thanks guys, you can go for now." Harry said to zayn and Louis, keeping his eyes on the man directly in front of him.
There was complete silence after the boys left. My eyes went back and forth between the two boys who were having an intense stare down.
"So what do you have to say for yourself? You dragged us all the way out here, spit it out."
"Harry." I warned, being ignored as he just crossed his arms over his chest.
"Look, I don't want any trouble." The man said, raising his hands.
"Well maybe you should've thought of that before you drugged Alyssa."
The mans eyes shifted to me, and I could see clear guilt all through them. He was nothing like Julian or Jonathan, this man actually had a heart. And it almost had me sympathizing with him.
