Sarah's POV
I groggily open my eyes. I don't remember much of what happened, just loud noises, the feeling of falling, and then searing pain. I don't feel any pain right now though, just some uncomfortableness under my cast. I focus on the cast. It engulfs my leg from my foot to my knee. I can just see my toes peeking out at the end.
"Scary huh?" A voice asks. I whip my head around to see Henry sitting in a chair beside my bed. The movement causes a twinge of pain in my neck though, and I wince. "Oh, careful." Henry cautions, he moves and fixes my pillows for me.
"Where am I?" I ask him.
"The hospital." He smiles at me sympathetically. "You took quite a beating yesterday falling from Lord X's machine. Quite gutsy by the way," he adds. I frown.
"Yesterday?"
"Yeah, you've been out cold since then. It probably didn't help that you needed surgery to repair the break in your ankle." He looks down at the cast on my leg.
"Is it a bad break?" I ask him. I realize he's not a doctor, but none are around and it seems it's been explained to him."Doctors said you should be good. They were a bit confused and worried about all your bruising and cuts though, I think they were going to call the police, thinking your parents abused you." He sees my face go pale and my eyes go wide with worry.
He hurries to to assure me;
"No, don't worry! They just think you were in a very aggressive game of backyard football." He laughs it off. I grin it him, flashing him an annoyed look that I don't really mean.
"I'm actually kidding, we're at a superhero hospital they know all about you," he laughs even harder, seeing my grin turn to a glare.
"You suck," I grumble at him, but I'm having to try very hard to hide my grin."So now what?" I ask. "More chase down the villains? Or is Lord X done for good?" The phrasing of my question makes me look down at my leg. "Well, maybe not chase," I add wryly. Henry grins at me in return.
"Nope, no chasing for you," He says. He must see my face fall from thinking that I'm being taken out of the field, because he quickly grabs my hand and squeezes it. "Oh? no! That's not what I meant. I meant that you got them Sar, they're as good as gone do you don't have to chase them. Well really they're in a maximum security prison far away from Swellview, but close enough." He smiles at me, then looks down at his hand holding on to mine, and yanks it away like mine had burned it. I choose to ignore it and move on.
"So that means everything's good?" I ask.
"Everything's good." He promises. He leans in and wraps me up in a quick, comforting hug. I hug him back.
"What about Lord X's powers?" I ask. I want to know if they're going to pose a problem in jail.
"They're gone Sarah, gone." Henry assures me. I smile happily, knowing I did something right by taking him down. I don't really understand how his powers had disappeared but I was happy about it none the less."So where are my parents?" I ask, looking around to see if I can see them. I think I need to talk them about everything Lord X told me.
"They just went to get some coffee. I promised I'd stay with you." Henry explains.
"Thank you." I smile warmly. He returns the smile, and then looks down at my cast. As I stare at his eyes, I can see the pain there as he looks at my cast, but he hides it as soon as he sees me still looking at him.
"You know I was really worried about you for awhile there," he says suddenly, looking at me intensely.
"Oh yeah?" I ask. I pretend to be surprised by his revelation, but instead I feel happy inside that he was worried about me."Don't act so surprised Sarah. I've gotten pretty good at reading your expressions by now," he says after seeing my face and body language. I feel a blush spread across my face as I give him a sheepish look.
"I didn't know you could see through me so easily," I say quickly. He gives me a cocky grin, but I can still see pain in his eyes that I don't understand. Then his face turns serious.
"In all honesty Sarah, seeing you hurt like that was terrible. There was blood everywhere, you were barely breathing, and your ankle was bent at such an odd angle. I couldn't bear it. I couldn't even be happy that you defeated Lord X. Which by the way you are going to have to explain what happened there to me eventually."
"I don't really have to," I say with a bit of sass, unsure of what else I can say to him. He rolls his eyes at me, but then his usual bright white smile reappears.I look at him, studying him, trying to understand how he's feeling. I realize he's just said all these confusing, emotional things to me, but I don't know how much is made up. I'm also not sure how much of his gaze that seems to look at me with such tenderness is a part of my imagination.
He suddenly takes my hand in his. I stare at it, seeing his larger, stronger hand intertwine with mine, while he carefully avoids the the IV stuck in the back of my hand. I gain the courage to look back up at him, and stare into his eyes. He stares right back, his own eyes unwavering, seeming to say everything left unsaid between us.
He leans in, and places his other hand on the curve of my waist. Thankfully I didn't get hurt there besides a few minor bruises. But I can't focus on it because his face is now inches away from mine and I can feel his breath on my neck. He moves his head even closer to mine, and stares directly into my eyes, his breath now softly tickling my lips because of his proximity. He breaks away from eyes to look down at my lips, before looking back up at me, and then finds my mouth with his own. I let out a breath, a little surprised, but I make no effort to stop him.
It's such a great feeling, his lips pressed smoothly against mine. It's even better than the first time we kissed. I wrap my own arm around his back, and I feel his hand slip lower and lower down my backside. I kiss him harder, and he follows suit. Everything feels so right. All the pent up energy we'd been pushing away, all the pent up emotion and frustration is released, and it is so satisfying. He again kisses me harder, trying to move his tongue into my mouth. He doesn't have to try very hard though.
The sound of someone clearing their throat startles us and we break apart. With just our luck, it's my parents.
"Hi Sarah, good to see you're feeling fine." My dad says tight-lipped. My mom hits him on the arm.
"We'll be outside honey if you need us." She smiles warmly and leaves the room with my dad in tow."Well that was awkward." I laugh.
"Yeah pretty much." Henry agrees.
"Maybe we should just stay friends." I say, with a teasing grin.
"Hmm, maybe we should." Henry laughs, and grins mischievously. He doesn't sound very convinced about the idea though. The End
