The First Five

Day One

Alby spent the rest of the morning showing me around. He showed me the homestead (where everyone sleeps), the slaughter house, and the forest. He explains what's behind the walls (the maze) and how every day Minho and Newt run out there to find a way out.
"You know for a greenbean your taking this surprisingly well." He says.
"Well you cant stand around moping about the past, you just have to man up and move on. Because what's done is done you cant change it." I reply.
"Wise words to live by." He smiles at me.
"Now, you now know the place we call home but we have a few rules in order to keep the peace. Rule one, no one leaves into the maze unless you are a runner. Got that." I nodded in response.
"Rule number two, never harm another glader, this place works based on trust if we start fighting everything falls apart. The third and final rule is everyone does their parts. This rule exists for two reasons. Reason one is to stop slackers, and reason two is to keep you occupied if you do nothing you get lase and start losing hope." He says I can only node in response.
"We have a selection of jobs you can do such as builders, runners, track-hoes they are gardeners, cooks, and slicers they woke in the slaughter house. Take your pick."
I start to think this over, I immediately rule out slicer and runner. I could never harm an animal and I don't think i could run all day. The next thing I can cross out is builder it sounds boring. I guess I could be a cook or track-hoe. As I'm about to answer an idea pops into my head.
I look at him and say " what about a medic?" He looks at me and replies "Well I think we just found our new med-jack, from this day onward you are now Gracie the med-jack." We both start laughing.

Later that evening when the runners return we all sit down to eat. I sit next to Newt and Minho and across Alby and Gally.
"So Gracie now that you are an official glader what's your new gob?" Newt asks curiously. Well Newt you are looking at the brand new med-jack."Alby replies before I can. The boys look at me confused. I smile and reply "He means I'm your new medic." They all start laughing and soon I join in.
"Alright the i propose a toast, to Gracie the new med-jack. My you always be happy with your job caus' you ain't shucking changing it now." Gally says still laughing.
I giggle and lean on Newt feeling tired.
"You tired there Grace?" Newt asks wrapping an arm around me. I yawn "Just a bit."
"Hey Alby did you sort out some where for Gracie to sleep?" Mihno asked.
"Ahh klunk I knew I forgot something." Alby shakes his head.
"It's okay she can stay with me tonight." Newt says looking down at me smiling.
"Ohh get some Newt!" Minho yells Newt starts to blush. I cam already tell me and Minho are gonna get on fine cause he is sassy like me. I smirk at him and tell Newt
"It's okay Newt he's just jealous cause he can't sleep with you."
"Ohh snap Minho you just got owned!!" Gally smiles and Alby tries not to laugh but fails. Minho looks at me
"You know what Gracie I think you and me are gonna get on just fine." He holds out his hand and I shake it.
"Hey guys I know I haven't even been here for 24 hours but I want to say you guys are grate and I already love you guys like family your the best friends a girl could have and I just want to say thank you all."
I look down. I can feel a teardrop falling down my cheek.
"Gracie you may have not been here very long but you have made a big impression on all of us and I think I can speak for all of us and say we love you to. You are like our baby sister and we all will protect you like one." Alby says. By now I'm in tears and I look up at them to see them all smile and node their heads in agreement with him.
"Ahh come on group hug." Gally says pulling me into a hug. Soon enough all the boys join in as well.
"We best be getting to bed." Newt says as we pull away.
"Right big day tomorrow, Gally can you make Gracie a new room considering she is the only girl and all. And you Gracie, you start your new job tomorrow. So everyone get a good night's sleep." Alby says." Oh and Gracie you don't mined sharing a room with Newt do you?" I shake my head "Okay good, night every one." He says. As we all separate I follow Newt to his room.
"Sorry it's not the biggest room but It will fit us both." He says as we walk into his room. "You can take the bed if you want."
"I gave a better idea how about we share?" I ask.
"Umm sure if it's okay with you." He starts to blush. Next thing I know he takes off his shirt. I just stand there starring, I can see he has a six pack probably the perks of being a runner I think to my self. Before I can turn away he catches me looking it's now my turn to blush.
"Sorry I'm not used to people in here." He stands there smirking at me. I quickly change the subject, "Umm do you have anything for me to change into?"
He turns around to pick up something while he does so, I watch his muscles flex. I bit my lip and take his shirt. He looks at me before turning around I change quickly and tell him he can turn around. Newt stares at me I start to feel self conscious the shirt I'm wearing only comes down mid thigh. He clears his throat and smiles climbing into bed I stand there a bit before joining him.
"Good night Newt." I feel my eyes getting droopy
"Good night Gracie" before I fall asleep I feel his arms go around my waist like at dinner and for some odd reason it feels good. I then feel his lips on my head. I smile to my self before snuggling
into his chest. I then fall into a dreamless sleep.
