Everybody Wants To Be A Gangster

Chapter 4

We walked through the streets. I saw little kids play in the barrio. They still had a lot of innocence. I felt bad for them because I knew that when they get older many would see the cruelty of the world. I still remember being once innocent but then the things I've seen have changed me. It was like when your dream world shattered and you saw reality. I hoped that these kids wouldn't have to go through much. My mistakes and other's mistakes scarred me that's why I didn't always trust people easily. We finally got to our favorite spot.

The gang greeted me as always. Antonio went to talk to one of the other guys. Meanwhile I went to talk to Jose.

"Hey bro, I haven't seen you for a while", Jose said.

"Yeah. It's just that Antonio didn't want me to come last time and he signed me up for school", I said.

"That must suck", Jose said.

"Tell me about it. Only one good thing came out of this", I said smiling already remembering Natasha.

"What was it? Wait a minute I know that smile. It was a girl wasn't it", Jose said.

"Yeah. Dude I swear she's different from any girl I've ever met", I said.

"You're in love bato", Jose teased.

"Nah. I just like her a lot", I said.

We changed the subject. Antonio called a meeting and all of us gathered together.

"It's time we steal more drugs. I set up a meeting with another guy. We need the money", Antonio said.

He told us who was going with him. One of them was me and the other was Alejandro. The others stayed talking and would wait for us to announce another victory for our gang. I was the look out while Antonio and Alejandro stole the package. After a while I saw them coming and running. I took off with them and we ran as fast as we could. When we lost him we went back to the gang.

They cheered for us. Our gang was getting powerful. It started as nothing now it's getting bigger. They started celebrating for the night. I would have stayed but Antonio dragged me back home. I guess I'm not escaping school. After he left me here he went back with them. Instead of going to sleep like I was supposed to I went outside for a walk. I took my gun because I wasn't stupid. It was dangerous to be alone outside. I walked for a while thinking of Natasha. I was excited to go back to school but it was because of Natasha. I wanted to talk to her and see her again.

I went back home after a while. I went to sleep. Antonio woke me up early. I still was sleepy and I wanted to kill him. I got my stuff and left. I tried not to get into trouble but it always found me. I got into trouble with Mr. Lorenzo because supposedly I was talking back. That guy is always trippin'. When everyone was eating lunch, I looked for her. I saw her with two other girls. Looking at her, strangely, made me feel nervous and it made my heart beat fast as if I was running for my life. I couldn't go to her that's for sure. I would look like a fool.

I didn't have friends in this school. I wasn't very friendly either. I sat near two guys who looked like they were from my street. They looked at me as if I am crazy or something. Then one of the guys looked like he recognized me.

"Hey aren't you Gustavo Gonzales", he said.

"Yeah", I said.

"Aren't you in a gang? I heard you're a fearless dude who robbed one of the most famous drug dealers", he said.

"Yeah. I'm in a gang. I did do what you said", I said.

"Wow. That's cool", he said.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"I'm George and that's Samuel".

George had really short black hair, light brown eyes, and he was muscular. Samuel had longer hair that is a glossy brown, he has plain brown eyes, and he is skinny with a few muscles. After a bit we were comfortable with each other and talked. They weren't so bad. I can say that I enjoyed their company. After lunch we went to class. During my classes I couldn't stop thinking of Natasha. After school I saw her with the group of girls from lunch.
