~ Juli's P.O.V. ~
"Juli Coachmen, the doctor can see you now." The woman at the desk called my name.
I stood up off the couch and walked down a long hallway. The nurse directed me into a room, where I walked in, sat down, and waited.
While I sat there, I couldn't help but think of Niall. By now, he should be talking to management about Allie. I really hope he has. I just want him to be happy. My thoughts were interrupted when a woman, only a few years older than me, walked in.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Rylee Benson, and you must be Juli." She stuck her hand out and I shook it willingly.
"Hi, so today, will I just get an ultrasound or something?" I asked, clueless.
She laughed a little as she sat in her chair across from me. "Yes, and I will try to determine how far along you are. Is the father here with you?"
I cringed at the mentiom of my baby's dad. "No.. He, uh.. Couldn't make it." As far as I knew, he was still in jail for breaking in.
Dr. Benson didn't suspect anything. "Alright, that's fine. I can just give you a picture for him later. Now if you don't mind, can I ask you a few questions?" I nodded in response. "Are you sexually active?"
I lowered my head to the floor. "Not lately. About two months ago." I mumbled. I was ashamed that my baby's father was sleeping with another woman the same time he was sleeping with me.
"Did you experience symptoms in the beginning of your pregnancy?" She asked, looking down at her checkboard.
"Just morning sickness, and I would have migraines every once in a while." I replied, messing with a stray piece of hair.
"That's normal. Is that all?" She asked.
"Yep." I said, popping the "p".
She reviewed her checkboard for a few seconds, then spoke again. "Alright, are you ready for an ultrasound?" She asked, a little forced excitement in her voice. I nodded and she led me to a table and asked me to lay down on it.
"Will I get to see my baby today?"
"Not only will you get to see it, you should be able to hear it's heartbeat! If I can get it in the right position, that is." I nodded at her answer. "Can you pull up your shirt to just below your bra?"
I pulled up the hem of my shirt, leaving my bare, baby bump exposed. "Now, the gel I'm going to put on your stomach is pretty cold, I'm not going to lie."
Without thinking, I asked her, "Have you had a baby?"
She paused. "I was pregnant with twins when I was seventeen, but, I lost one of them after he was born." A could swear I saw Dr. Benson tear up for a second, but it was gone just as fast as it came.
"I'm, um, I'm really sorry." I regretted asking that question.
"No, it's ok. I've accepted it." She quickly changed the subject. "I'll put the gel on so we can start your ultrasound."
Dr. Benson picked up a large white bottle, flipped up the cap, and squirted a light blue gel across my lower abdomen. She was right, the gel was freezing.
"Are you ready to see your baby?" She asked me. I nodded and a smile came to my face. She grabbed a wand-looking object from off the top of a machine and placed it on my stomach. She moved it around for a few minites, my eyes on the screen the entire time.
When I saw a little head appear on the screen, that's when it became real.
I am going to become a mother. This is my child. I might have to give up my dreams of medical school, but as long as I raise this baby right, was all that mattered to me.
