I stared at the note on top of the shiny gold box. What was this? I bit my lip. Good thing it was delivered while my Mom was out. This was the ball, Grandma was talking about. I was insanely curious. Should I go? Slowly, I pushed the invitation aside, and opened the box- slowly. Inside was a black dress and I visibly paled. It was beautiful- extremely beautiful- and looked extremely expensive. The bodice was sequined, and the material made of shiny black velvet- almost as if it were raven's feathers. Then, I could have screamed, as my eyes traveled down to the skirt part. It was billowing, and beautiful. Feathers were attached to the silky material. The feathers were pure black, and beautiful- feeling like a dove's feathers. I wanted to jump up and down and scream. It was strapless, and simplistic, and all in all it was me. Setting the dress down like it was something extremely breakable, I checked the huge box for more things.

To the left of the huge box, was another small box, with the Louis Vuitton. symbol prominently stamped onto the top of the pure black box. I could have fainted. Gingerly, I set it aside, picking up a clear case with a beautiful mask inside of it. The mask, seemed to cover my eyes and my nose only, a delicate black ribbon stringing from the back of it to tie around my head. Wow. It was beautiful... The feathers, even though they were black- seemed to cast a rainbow across the room. I glowered. Finally, coming to the bottom of the box- a yellow piece of parchment sat, with cursive handwriting in some expensive pen.

May, please try to make it to the ball. I have some things to discuss, and people to introduce you to.

                                  -Grandma Verdin.

I was definitely going now. There was no way, anyone would stop me. I was going for one reason and one only. I wanted to know what was being hidden from me.

       *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Half of the week seemed to fly by faster than I could blink, as I planned and schemed for the masquerade ball.

The boys hadn't messed with me, and I kept quiet like my normal self. But- just as Thursday rolled around, I knew it was too good to be true.

The moment I inserted my key  into the locker, one famaliar blond ball of evil sexiness, strutted his way to me, happy about something.

"Hello, May." He whispered, parking himself right near my locker. I wish I could have slammed it in his face, but thinking twice- I decided that was not best for my current situation. I lugged my heavy books from the locker, holding them in my right hand, while shutting the locker with my left. I clicked it locked- and pocketed the key.

"I'm sorry, Chase. You're going to have to come back next week. This week I'm supremely busy. I have things to attend to today and tomorrow." I explained, sarcastically, pushing off my locker to walk away.

"Oh! I know! Did you hear about the big Verdin ball? Well- oh wait! You hadn't! Because you're just a poor girl." He cackled, throwing his head back, blond hair framing his face. I visibly paled. Chase was going to the-... No... I sucked in a breath. Okay, it was a masquerade ball. There was only like one chance of him running into me there. I nodded, reassuring. I can't let him know I am going. No one can know.

So I walked past him, shaking my head. I wish I could tell that jerk I was going- but that would probably blow my whole plan. Sighing, I entered my home room class, thinking about Friday, and what would happen.

   ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I was pretty satisfied, as I examined my car - a sheepish smile glued to my face. I had finally gotten the spraypaint off, and my hands were positioned on my hips in satisfaction.

I needed to figure out how I was going to make it to that mansion, (that which by the way, I hadn't even known my own Grandma owned. Which is weird.) Anyways. I had to find out, how, I was to get there without my car recongized. Or without me recongized. A thought dinged in my head. The Verdin mansion was on 23rd street, right near Boulier Boulevard, (Which was where all the rich people lived in huge mansions and rolling green hills), I knew that a bus stop was located at least a block away from Boulier Boulevard. Okay, then. I have my transportation... Now I have to have my motives.

A smile slinked its way across my face, evilly.
