I haven't updated anything for over a week, and I'm sorry about that. I've kinda been talking to someone. And that someone may or may not be that girl I was crushing on..... I've got priorities, guys.

---------------------

I lay on Riley's bed, my head resting on her stomach and her fingers tangled in my hair. She's humming along to whatever song is playing through her headphones, and I can't help but think it's adorable.

"Maya?"

"Hmm?"

"Please never leave."

I smile, knowing now exactly how much she enjoys me living here. "I won't, Riles. I'm right here."

She laughs a little. "Good."

Turns out I was wrong.

Less than five minutes after I've told Riley I'm not going anywhere, the door to her bedroom opens, revealing both her parents on the other side.

Everything is just kind of frozen for a moment. Riley's parents staring at us, us staring right back. A million thoughts racing through each person's mind.

Riley's dad finally stomps angrily into the room, pointing a finger at me. "Who are you? What are you doing in my daughter's room?"

I can't answer. I'm terrified, slowly backing away from his angry fist. "Who are you?!"

"M-Maya...." My voice comes out hardly above a whisper, and I fall off the bed in my haze. As soon I hit the floor, I'm on my feet, looking for an escape route.

"Her name is Maya Hart, and she isn't leaving." Riley. She's sticking up for me. The girl who cried to me because she was afraid to tell her parents that she's gay is sticking up for me.

The attention is moved from me to Riley, and I can finally calm myself down.

"Maya Hart? Topanga, isn't that the name of that girl who ran away?"

Riley's mom nods slowly. They're going to send me back. Oh my God, they're going to send me back.

"P-Please. I can't go back, please. They treat me like shit in that house, please don't make me go back. Hasn't anyone ever wondered if there's a reason I've run away so many times?" There are tears running down my cheeks, and I don't even try to stop them.

Riley's mom -- who's name, I've learned, is Topanga -- gives her husband a look. One that says "show some sympathy."

He sighs, defeated, and makes a move toward me. Still a bit scared of him, I don't take his hand when he offers it.

Riley is on her feet now, standing next to me. She looks almost as terrified as I feel.

"Mom, Dad, there's something else you need to know." She takes a deep breath, and I realize what she's doing. "I'm gay."

They just stare like they did when they first opened the door. No emotions showing, other than the obvious surprise. "Sweetie, I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for the way you're feeling --"

I look at Riley, scared that she'll be crying. But she isn't. She's fuming. "Get out. Get out of my bedroom right now. Go! Get out!"

Her parents slam the door shut, almost like they've completely forgotten about me. Riley starts to cry, flopping onto her bed with a loud sob.

"Riles..." I lay down next to her, and she silently pulls me closer. The only sound that can be heard while we lay there in each other's arms is Riley's raspy breathing.

She eventually cries herself to sleep, but I stay awake. I'm insanely tired, but sleep doesn't come.

Because why sleep when I could worry about what's going to happen to both of us?
