"Dead people receive more flowers than the living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude." — Anne Frank.

Octavia

My ears ring as the explosion dies down and I squeezed my eyes shut as I wrap my arms around Lexi, hearing things fall or blow up. I breathe slowly when things fell quiet and I didn't hear anything expect mine and Lexi's breathing.

Everything was quiet.

Everything was silent.

"Lexi?" I whisper into her ear. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" I ask her, feeling a couple of tile ceilings fell onto my back.

"No." She whispers back and I get off of her, I help her up. We were covered in dust and blood. I look at Lexi to see a cut on her forehead, blood trails down her face. She winces, pressing a hand to her wound.

"At least it ain't worse." I tell her before turning around, and I gasp when I saw the destruction and bodies laying around the room. "Shit, try to look for anyone's who's alive." I say, jumping over some pieces of the ceiling and crouching down beside a little boy.

"What the fuck just happen?" Lexi asks me, and she moves forward, moving carefully over the floor.

"Suicide bomber." I answer, pressing my two fingers against the boy's neck. No pulse. I sighed, closing the boy's eyes and stood up before checking his mother.

"Mom! Dad!" I heard Lexi screaming and I look up, watching as she runs to her parents that were on the floor, unmoving. Shit. I stood up and quickly went over to her as she bend down next to her parents, grabbing their hands.

I went beside her and press my fingers against her Mother's neck, checking for a pulse. I saw a piece of a pole in deep in her chest, blood pouring around her chest.

No pulse.

"Crap." I mutter before moving over to her Father. I press my fingers against his neck and felt for something, anything. He doesn't have a pulse either. "I'm sorry Lexi." I say, looking over at her, frowning.

"No!" She shouts, and blurs of tears raise up in her eyes, regret filled her eyes as she grabs onto her Mother's head, pulling her onto her lap."I didn't—I need to—I didn't told them that I love them." She cries out, cradling her Mother's body in her arms as she looks to her Dad's body, his left arm was completely blown off and the side of his face was oozing with blood, shards of glass in his face.

"I'm so sor—" I was cut off when I heard voices shouting outside of the Embassy. I got up quickly and went to the shattered windows, I crouch down and peek over the windows. I swallowed when I saw Demi standing in front of the gates, men beside her as she shouts orders to them.

"Look for Octavia, and if you find anyone alive, kill them. But if Octavia survived this, bring her to me." She tells her men, and I curse under my breath as her men move toward the broken gates. I look toward the marines that were guarding the building, only to find them on the ground, bullets in their chests or unmoving.

"Lexi, we've got to go." I whispered, turning back to her and hurrying over to her. I grab onto her shoulder but she shoves me away, tears running down her cheeks as she holds onto her parents.

"No," she says firmly, shaking her head. "I'm not leaving my parents."

I grab her face, forcing her to look at me. "I'm really sorry about your parents, but we can't do anything about them right now. The dead are gone, Lexi. And the living are suffering. We need to get out of here, we're not safe anymore." I tell her, nodding softly. Her eyes only welled up with more tears.
