The orphanage is in its unusual business this morning. I woke up with noises coming from the garden, laughs and yell coming from the kids running errands along. Mamita, who is the orphanage administrator keep on babbling a lot of things, mostly summons of what and what not to do here and there. She sounded so busy and rushed.
With all these things going around, I decided to go out for a morning jog. I silently rushed out my pent is which located separately in the orphanage main building. I plan to go unnoticed, avoiding the commotions around.
"Levi!" a voice from a distant shouted. That was Mamita, I thought I could go unnoticed but I was wrong. Nobody escapes her keen eyes, not even me.
I came towards her shaking my head. "Hi Mamita!" I said as I came near her. Kissing her forehead as I greeted, "Good morning.."
"Shu?", she said in a mischievous tone. "After you tried to go out without bothering to greet us?"
I laughed, "Seems like somebody's having her period." I said teasingly.
I looked at her. Mary Kaye or Mamita, as what we call her, is the greatest woman I had known so far. She had been administering the orphanage for decades. Her silver hair is a proof not just of her old age but also of the wisdom she acquired in her life, like a crown in glory for all the battles she had won through all her years. The lines in her face does not even decrease her kind and gentle glow. She is a bubbly woman. A mixture of strength and grace, of confidence and humility. She is a woman of authority and virtue. She had been through alot of things and the lessons of her life is what brought the children in this orphanage to life - that includes me.
"Aren't you gonna take breakfast before you run outside?" She asked.
"I'll do that when I'm back."
"Okay as you wish" she shrugged. "But be sure to be here as early as you can. The cinema crew will be here to check the place and set up."
"Ahh.." I almost forget. So that was what all this commotion and business all about. I thought to myself.
"Don't tell me you forget?" Mamita said raising her right eyebrows and putting her hands on her waist. This is her habit I had grown used to.
"No, I didn't." I lied. "No worries, I wont take long."
"Make sure."
I smiled towards her, raising my eyebrows up and down lifting my right thumb up.
She laughed, "Yallah, go!" She said as she pushed me away. "Just take care."
Walking out, I can still hear Mamita giving order to the people with her.
This is gonna be a long day, I told myself.- CLIO -
We arrived at Batanes earlier than expected. It was a smooth flight. We proceeded at the villa where the crew will be staying for the entire filming. It is a nice place, solitude yet conducive for our need. We will be using some of the places for our scenes as well as so it is a practical choice.
I went around the room assigned for me. It is just the right space I need, not too big to magnify the empty space within and not to small to choke me in thin air. I looked around, it is European Inspired suite with big windows. There is also a terrace that faces towards the sea. I went to the terrace. Feeling the railing in my hand, inhaling the ocean breeze that goes against my skin taking as much air as I could.
