"Jack's inspiration above"
7-9-13: Dear diary,
It's been nearly a month since I've moved to Red Creek, and I can't get Damian Castellan out of my head. He's always drawing or sleeping in class, and seems to get extremely angry if I so much as look in his direction. Anyways, today's my birthday, as you know, and I think mom's planning something. That's another weird thing. She's been home more than usual.

"Happy birthday, Raven!" Everyone I know since moving here was gathered around the table, except for Damian of course, as I blew out the candles on my blue cake. I smiled as everyone clapped and accepted the presents that I was handed. "So, how old are you now?" Mindy asked. Even though we hang out now and then, she's the closest thing to a friend I've had since my original hometown in Georgia. "Eighteen. Just another year older."
She smiled and handed me her present. I opened it quickly and found a black jewelry box. As I peeked inside, I gasped. Inside was a stunning silver ring that seemed to be made of intertwining twigs with a crystal rose resting on top. It was the most beautiful ring I've ever seen.
I hugged her, "You didn't have to do that! It's so beautiful, thanks." She smiled, "It's said that the ring will protect its wearer from harm, but that's just an old wife's tale. Plus, my Grandma Beth said you would need it soon."
I gave her a strange look, and she shrugged her shoulders not knowing what it meant. I examined the ring's details and it seemed that the ring illuminated. "It's just the light playing tricks. A ring can't do anything. It's just my imagination from her story." I told myself.
As the party ended and everyone left, I helped my mom and dad clean up. But from the corner of my eye, I thought I saw someone in the yard, but when I looked, no one was there. As the cleanup was finished, I left for my room and fell onto my bed in exhaustion, and slept.

Since Raven Mathews arrived in Red Creek, the stray spirits have been problematic. They gather outside her house, and worse, they could harm someone if they stay around too long. What's so special about her? Why her? Of all humans in Red Creek, why her?
As I finished capturing the rogues, I couldn't help but to really see what she looked like since I ignore her at school. Her hair is black as night, and her eyes are a blue green color that are exaggerated by her porcelain skin. But even though I'm wearing my River Styx medallion, she still seemed to catch a glimpse of me.
"Find anything interesting , Master Damian?" I hate that damn familiar of my sister's. "No, Jack, just checking to make sure the Strays didn't get too close." He nodded with a smile as if he sensed my lie.
Since the beginning, I knew Raven resembled Lauren, but I can't get my hopes up.
"Get the Strays through the gate and go back to Rose." he bowed from the waist and I left him to his orders. After I left him, I went back to the house to sit in my library. When I reached my chair, I held out my hand. "This month's list!" As I waited, a silver covered book left the shelves and I had to jump to catch it as it zoomed a little to fast and high.
I opened the book, and at the end of this month's list is Raven's name. I placed my palm to my forehead, "This isn't right. She's not due for another twenty years." I slammed the book shut and sent it back to it's shelf.
"Something wrong, brother?" I looked up to see Rose leaning against the door frame. Her golden hair tumbling to her waist and her emerald eyes watching my every move.
"A human's been moved up on the List for some reason. She's not supposed to expire for another twenty years, but she's on this month's list. Do you think the Strays have anything to do with this?" She shook her head and her eyebrows scrunched in thought. "Who is it?"
