“Wake up.” I rolled over ignoring the deep voice giving me commands. “Alright, you leave me no choice, Familiar.” A shock of ice engulfed me and I jumped straight out of the deep sleep I was in and into the reality of the situation. When I opened my eyes, I was soaking wet and cold as Damian grinned from ear to ear holding a bucket.

“What was that for?!” His smile never faltered, “I did warn you. You just didn’t listen as always.” I frowned and rolled out of the soaked bed holding my arms to my chest to keep warm. “Are you insane?!” He shook his head, “For the past thirty years…..yes.”

I rolled my eyes, “What do you want?” He frowned, “Whatever do you mean? I want nothing.” Something was off. He was too…..happy. His posture was loose, his hair was neat, heck, he was smiling. “What is wrong with you?”

“You ask too many questions, Raven. Can’t you just stop and take something for what it is?” I froze, “Y-you said ‘Raven’.” He nodded, “Is that not your name?” I nodded slowly, “Yes….but you never use my name. Not once.” He shrugged, Rose wanted me to stop. She said it was dehumanizing, but I don’t get the point if you technically aren’t human anymore.”

I stared at him for a while in confusion, and his head snapped up out of his thoughts. “Do you want to leave the house today? Something….less dangerous? We can’t have you getting abducted into another portal.” I nodded slowly, “Sure?” He smiled, “Good. Get dressed and meet back in the library.”

He left the room with a small smile, and I still stood there staring at the door. What happened to him? I made my way into the bathroom, grabbed a quick shower, and pulled on a simple outfit of jeans and a black tank. Once I was done, I walked down the familiar hallways to the library where everyone was already there waiting for me.

“Took ya long enough.” Jack crossed his arms with a bright smile. “We only get to cross into Limbo twice a year.” Nothing he said meant anything to me. I had my attention on the serious looking conversation Damian was having with his oldest little sister.

Damian turned his head and caught my gaze. He shot a small smile, and Rose looked between him and me. She grabbed the collar of his shirt and yanked his attention back to her. “You shouldn’t try to pry into their meeting, you know.” Sebastian managed to sneak to my side as he looked where I was staring.

I turned to him, “I wasn’t prying.” He nodded, “Of course not. Are you ready for your first time in Limbo?” I frowned, “Limbo?” He nodded, “Limbo is a vast void of nothingness where souls caught in between Heaven and Hell or life and death are caught until the final decision is made. Plus, it’s also where the family vacation house is. We are only allowed into Limbo twice a year, so it’s a pretty big deal.”

“Alright. Everybody gather around, we’re going.” Rose straightened her pale blue day dress and a door appeared in the wall out of thin air. Damian opened the door, and on the other side was nothing but blackness. “Ladies first.” He smiled down at Rose, who didn’t seem amused by him in the least.

She stepped across the threshold and didn’t falter as she met the black void. She walked through and her two familiars followed suit. I made my way to the door, and stopped. “Are you alright?” I looked up at Damian who looked worried. “What is there to walk on? It’s just…nothing?” He held out his hand, “Come, I’ll show you.” I took his cold hand hesitantly.

He brushed his thumb over the skull tattooed on her wrist, “Come on.” She followed by his side to the edge of the door. When she looked down, she noticed that it wasn’t just nothing. It was a small path of glass suspended in the void for them to cross.

They walked across the glass, and finally caught up with the others who had made it to their destination. A large house made of marble and glass in the center of a lush, bright garden with plants she had never seen before. “Welcome to Limbo.”
