(Raven’s POV)-

Just as Sebastian had said, I found Damian at the very tip of the roof. I stood in front of the house looking up at his still figure. “How did you get up there?” I called. I saw his dark form turn towards me before standing up. “Easily. Why are you out here?”

I smiled up at him, “To apologize to you for earlier. I shouldn’t have said that, and since I did, Jack’s hurt.” I looked down at the ground and kicked an orange leaf.

A gust of wind circled around me as someone lifted my chin. Damian. He smiled at me though his eyes showed sadness. “I make you think about her.” I asked.

I saw tears well in his eyes, but he fought it back as he nodded. “Sometimes. Would you like to join me?” I looked at how high the house was, but swallowed my fear. He turned his back to me and helped me onto his back.

He jumped, and the ground disappeared below us. In a matter of seconds, we were on the roof looking over the forest. I sat on the ledge, and Damian took his place beside me holding my hand. “I really am sorry for making you so angry.”

He shook his head and knocked a stone from the roof. “No. I’m sorry. I couldn’t control my anger and it nearly got Jack and Sebastian killed in the process. I’m just glad that Sebastian got you out of the way.”

I nodded, but I felt horrible for wanting to tell him why I really wanted to talk to him. “Damian?” He made a hmm sound. “When can I go home?” I felt him tense up beside me. “You can’t. You’re dead, and that would cause an uproar if a dead person came back.” Wait. I’m dead?!

“I-I’m dead?!” He looked at me and nodded sadly. “You don’t remember?” I shook my head. “Feel your wrist, if that would help prove it to you.” I did, and felt nothing. “Oh my god. I’m really dead.” He nodded.

“So what if I jump from the roof?” He grabbed my wrist as if to keep me from doing it. “You’re dead, not invincible. You’d probably break some bones and I’d have to heal you.”

I nodded in thought. “Can’t I just go home and tell my parents good bye? I promise I’ll leave as soon as I say bye.” He looked as if he was going to tear apart in front of me. “No, but there is something you can do. How about we go to your funeral?” I nodded and laughed.

“Never thought I’d attend my own funeral.” He smiled, “Never did I. None of us did really.” My face grew hot, “Sorry. I forgot that everyone else probably attended their own funerals also.” He shook his head, “No, just Jack. We went with him, and we all sat in the back rows. That was about a century ago.”

A century. “Thinking of which, how old are you?” He laughed and I thought I’d die from the sound. “Eighty five. Are you happy now?” I nodded, “Now, I just need to find out how old Jack is.”

Damian looked out across the forest in thought, and for the briefest moment, I wish I could see what he did. All I could see was a bunch of dead trees. “Actually, not as old as you’d think. He’s forty. He died when he was twenty-six.” My jaw dropped and Damian laughed, “I think it’s time we went inside now.”

He pulled me back onto his back, and we fell from the roof. Inside, I felt like screaming, but he landed with a soft thud. “So, how do you do that?” He looked back up at the roof, “It’s a Reaper thing. You can do it too, but I have to teach you.” He took my hand and together, we entered the house.
