"Hey dad." I was smuggled on a chair in Emit's guest room.
"Hey pumpkin."
"Am I your daughter?" He was confused.
"Why are you asking that? Of course you are. I raised you."
"By blood?" He sighed.
"How did you find out?"
"Mom was at a diner. Did you know she is a movie director?"
"No I didn't."
"I realize that you put our needs before yours for 28 years but she is my mom. I had a right to know this. Why didn't you tell us?"
"She cheated on me!"
"That's not the point. I want to know why you didn't solve this. Why did you kick mom out?"
"Why don't we talk about this when you come home?"
"I'm not coming home, dad."
"What? Why?"
"Because I need a new start in a new place with new people."
"Brin."
"What dad?"
"Why are you acting all weird?"
"Because my boyfriend cheated on me, I'm an aunt and I just met my mom for the second time all within a week!"

I just finished a painful call with my father. I walked downstairs.
"You ok?" Emit asked as he stood in the kitchen eating something.
"Just hold me." I walked into his arms. He was 6'3 towering over me at 5'7.
"My arms are never closed for you."
"28."
"What's 28?"
"Missed calls from Greyson."
"Oh B." He took my phone.
"What are you doing?" I wiped my nose. He sat there with the phone to his ear.
"Emit!"
"Hey boo this ain't Brin. You need to understand that she doesn't like you. She doesn't love you. She doesn't want to see you ever again and I'm damn sure she don't want to get back together as you stabbed her heart while her world is changing."
"Damn emit." I stood there laughing.
"Eh! No! And I will. Thank you very much bitch." He hung up.
"What did he say?"
"He said we should get married." I laughed.
"That's stupid." I opened the fridge.
"We've already thought if that."

  "Em basketball?" Justin asked.
"No bitch." He scrolled through photos of the concert.
"Come on."
"You keep trying. I'm gonna make every fan girls dream."
"Emit!"
"I'll play." I say.
"Really?"
"Yeah." I got up from emit's arms.
"1 on 1 let's go." I put some shoes on and we walked to the driveway.
"You play?"
"Rarely." He passed the ball.
"You got any shit in our life going on?"
"Moving here was a pain in the ass but you want to know the worst one?"
"What?"
"Emit had Brin withdrawals."
"What are those?"
"He has these moments when he just wants to talk to you or just wants to hug you no one else but you."
"Why doesn't he just call me?"
"He's afraid you're at work or busy."
"He can always call."
"It's so weird. I'll try and comfort him and he will have none of it." I shot a basket.
"Nice."
"Hey Maddie wants us to come over." Emit says.
"Why?"
"Because she doesn't have friends."
"You're mean."

We walked into Maddie and Eli's house.
"What's going on?" Justin asked.
"I just got you something." Maddie says.
"Why didn't you just send it to me?" Emit asks.
"I want to see your reaction."
"Reaction? I'm scared." Justin says.
"One for you, you, and you." She each gave us a small bag.
"This is sketchy." Emit says.
"Just open it." Eli says.
"Ok..." We each got a white shirt with pink lettering on it.
"Best uncle ever." Emit said.
"Even better uncle." Justin read.
"Best aunt this world has seen." I say. It took a just a second but we got it.
"Oh my gosh!" I jumped up and down.
"Bitch you pregnant?" Emit asked.
"Not exactly." Maddie explained.
"We're adopting a girl. She's a surrogate baby and she is 7 months."
"Old or not born?" I asked. Justin screamed.
"Not born."
"This is awesome." Emit says.
"Why did you wait so long?"
"Just wanted to make sure that the baby would stay."
"I'm so happy for you two!" I hugged them.
"Thank you." My phone dinged.
Mom: do you want to meet your dad?
Me: not ready
"You good?" Emit asked.
"Yeah I'm great." It was moments like these that even though I wasn't apart of the their family, I felt like I was. It was moments like these you wish could last forever and ever but instead you keep them locked away for laughter, happiness, joy, and love only. It was moments like these when I wish we were always together, Always strong and always United. The laughter from Emit and Maddie as well as their mom and dad always made you shine. Never put you down. Never made you feel bad. But they always made sure you were ok and you were loved. Their love was a different kind of love. It was warm like Emit's hugs and comforting like midnight calls with your babe. It was real, true love.
