Chapter 18: No Place Id Rather Be

  I kept looking at Grayson wondering if he was going to make it to shelter. An enormous wave was plummeting toward him as a fast rate, taking lawn chairs and trees with it. I was inside a building.
"Ma'am you need to step away from the window and find cover." A women said.
"Not until he's safe." I said. I hadn't even thought about Junior or the boys.
"Brin thank god!" Sarah ran into me.
"He's out there." I cried.
"Who?"
"Grayson." The wave was just feet away from him. A branch crashed into the window without breaking glass.
"Step away!" The women yelled.
"Come on B."
"No." I stood planted by the door. I wasn't moving until Grayson was safe. My phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Brin!" Finn yelled in a staticky voice.
"Where are you."
"Sa-"
"Finn!"
"Safe. Where-"
"Finn!"
"You at?"
"Safe."
"Brin?" He asked.
"Here." I said.
"The connection is bad." Sarah says.
"I love you." And just for that moment he spoke clearly.
"I love you too." I wiped my eyes. That was just what I needed to hear. Grayson ran to the door and I opened it.
"Hey!" That lady yelled.
"Shut you mouth or I'll shut it for you!" Sarah said to her. I wrapped my arms around him and cried into his shoulder, soaking his shirt.
"I could have lost you." I sobbed. He held me tighter than he ever has before. The sparkle in your eye, and the dimple of your smile gave me just the slightest glimmer of hope. Grayson thought.
"When i say run you run."
"Not without you." I shook my head.
"Yes, without me." I ignored that selfless comment. There was no way I could still be mad at him. He's done more good than bad. We huddled In a corner and soon the storm passed but I never once let go of him. I couldn't risk it. He was my top priority in that moment and I knew I was his.

After the storm seceded we walked out of the building that we seeked shelter in.
"Summerton is destroyed." I said.
"The store." Sarah ran. Luckily for us everything in Summerton was within walking distance. Around the corner of Romeo street was the little local Juliet bakery. Sarah covered his face in awe of the damage that had been done to her family store. For generations they build that store up from dirt. Now all it was was dirt. We walked into the debris.
"Careful." Grayson said.
"Everything is gone." Sarah said.
"Our store." Grayson added. I was mesmerized how the store managed to miss the apartments just barley. The community of our small town was walking throw the broken city. Summerton was nothing but gravel and debris and so were its people.

  I ran into Emit's arms.
"Are you ok?!" He asked.
"I'm fine." He spun me around.
"Don't ever scare me like that again!"
"I won't." I shook my head nodding in agreement.
"Never again." I proceeded to hug my brothers.
"Come here buddy." I held Junior and pressed his head to my shoulder. Kendall's phone rang. Them Grayson's, and mine.
"Hello?"
"Baby are you ok?" Cara asked.
"I'm ok. We are ok."
"Oh." She was sobbing on the other line.
"You gave me a heart attack." I could hear the new channel in the background. Reporting the destruction.
"Summerton will have to come together and rebuild this legacy." The news anchor said.

I unrolled the bedding on my bed. Grayson came from behind and started rubbing my aching shoulders.
"You do know that you coming back into my life is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me right?"
"You can't say that. I'm not worth that much."
"That's bull shit Brin. That's such bullshit."
"Why did you even take me back?" I asked.
"The sparkle in your eye, and the dimple if your smile gave me just the slightest glimmer of hope that we could be us." I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I screwed up so bad and I regret every moment. You are the one that I love. What I did was a shit move and all I could ask for is your forgiveness.
"I never knew how much you went to me until I almost lost you today."
"You want to know what the best decision I ever made was?"
"What?" I looked at him and he drug his thumb across my eye.
"Taking the job so I could meet the love of my life."
"I just really want to spend tonight with my family."
"Ok." He nodded in acceptance. He walked with me to the triplets apartment. The guys just finished a movie and Junior was cranky. Jake handed me him and I pat his back.
"We crash here tonight?" Grayson asked.
"Of course." Kendall smiled.
"Me too?" Sarah opened the door.
"Yeah." Finn nodded. I felt so bad for Sarah. She lost everything she's ever had. Her mom. The store. That's all she had to hold on to. And to top it off Neil broke up with her a couple weeks back. We were her family now. Finn rolled out sleeping bags.
"Smells like our last camp out." Kendall says.
"That was so long ago." I say.
"I remember that night." Jake nodded.
"What happened?" Fin asked. We sat in a circle in the floor, junior in my lap and Grayson's arm around me with my head in Sarah's shoulder.
"Well for starters Brin and Finn her farting on the fire and dad was promoting it!" Jake laughed.
"I did not!" I yelled.
"Yeah we did." Finn laughed.
"And Dad got mad at Kendall for bringing his playboy."
"Dad let you have a playboy?!" Finn asked.
"Yeah." He said in a low deep voice with a huge smirk.
"He wouldn't let me have one!" Finn protested.
"Shh I want to hear more." Sarah says.
"After Brin set her ass on fire several times dad got the bright idea to cook some beans."
"No." Grayson shook his head.
"Yes. Brin just about blew us up." Kendall says.
"Finn was in this too!" I complained.
"True." He nodded.
"And what was mr. Perfect doing?" Sarah asked.
"I was texting my babe."
"We didn't even have phones back then idiot." I say.
"Shh. She was like I love you and I was like I love you too." He said in a slick voice.
"You're full of shit." Grayson says.
"How would you know? You weren't there!" We went back and forth arguing about beans and Jakes 'babe'. I was so happy that after a horrible day we could come together and be a family again. It made my entire night. I love my boys so much. I just wish Emit and Justin could have been there. They were at their hotel fast asleep.
