Becca got up late the next morning, Saturday, about 11:00 AM. She groaned as she looked at the make up on her dresser, dreading having to put it on. She hissed in irritation, but got up and took a shower, drying her hair then putting her make up on, changing into a black t shirt with a matching black sweater over it, putting on a full black skirt reaching her shins, yanking on socks and her favorite black trainers. She pulled on a slouch hat, carefully putting on her contacts before going downstairs and sitting down at the kitchen table in the corner. She was greeted by her oldest sister and a cup of coffee, as well as the creamer and a spoon. Becca grinned and rolled her eyes, picking up the creamer.
"Afternoon to you too, Ria." She said, stirring creamer into her coffee.
"Afternoon. Your make up looks good today." Becca rolled her eyes, dropping the spoon onto the table loudly and taking a drink of her coffee.
"Oh come on, at least you don't look like a punk rock person."
"Oi! I like that type of make up."
"Yeah but Mom and Dad don't."
"I know." Becca grumbled, drinking her coffee. Ria, her sister, sighed and sat down across from Becca, resting from making lunch.
"Becca, come on. You're not making this any easier for yourself or Mom."
"I hate being girly." Becca spat, glaring down at her mug. Ria raised one eyebrow.
"Really? Because I heard someone mention that Harry likes it when girls are feminine."
"Well that's tough because I'm not gonna be fe-wait why do you say Harry in particular?" Ria grinned, making Becca nervous.
"Weeeeell...." Ria dragged out the word until Becca groaned in frustration.
"Well, a certain...someone, is upstairs, talking to Mom and Dad...and it's very quiet around here, because I think everyone knows what that, someone is asking." Becca was confused.
"Wait, Harry? Harry's talking to Mom and Dad?! Why? What did I do this time?!" Ria laughed, putting her hands on Becca's shoulders to calm her down.
"Becca, relax. You didn't do anything wrong. We don't know exactly why he's talking to them, but everyone suspects he's asking them if he can court you." Becca stared at Ria blankly for a minute before exclaiming,
"Long haired girl needs to get a boyfriend say what?! Why would anyone want to date me?! I'm just boring old me!" Ria laughed, not answering her question, just getting up and continuing to make lunch. Becca groaned and dropped her head to her crossed arms on the table.
"Great. I don't know what to think about this and I hate things that I don't know what to think about."
"That was a long and complicated sentence." Becca jumped at her dad's voice, her knees slamming against the underside of the table before she got up from her chair, causing her to wince and hiss 'ouch' before stumbling into a straight position, looking at Harry, her mom and dad. She bit her lip and asked,
"Uh, what's going on?" Her Mom laughed and said, picking up her wrist,
"Come on, I'll explain. Your dad has to explain something still, so we have time." Becca let her mom lead her out of the kitchen, glancing back as Mr. Sawyer and Harry sat down at the table, her dad speaking with a serious expression on his face.
Mrs. Sawyer and Becca went into a study room off the living room, and Mrs. Sawyer sat down opposite Becca.
"OK, as you know, Harry came to talk to us this afternoon while you were asleep. I'm just going to get straight to the point; he asked if he could court you." Becca's jaw dropped and her eyes widened.
"Mama say what?!" She exclaimed, making Mrs. Sawyer laugh.
"Yes he did. Now, seriously, do you want to court him?"
"Yes! Oh my gosh yes but why did I answer that so fast?" Becca replied instantly then tilted her head in confusion, looking at Mrs. Sawyer. Mrs. Sawyer chuckled before replying,
"I imagine because you like him, which you do, don't you?" Becca flushed and nodded.
"I like him a lot. He's....awesome." Mrs. Sawyer smiled.
"Well, as you know there have to be rules for the courting." Becca nodded.
"But for you, they won't be as strict because you've gotten stuck chaperoning everyone in this family." Becca raised her eyebrows.
"Nice. I always knew there was a reason I got stuck with them." Mrs. Sawyer laughed.
"You can be alone together, without a chaperon, but we're trusting you to not do anything wrong." Becca wrinkled her nose.
"OK, I get the point! You won't do anything wrong. When you go places far away, you have to bring someone with you, okay? That's just about it." Becca took a deep breath then sighed, smiling.
"Heh, I'm courting. I'm courting. That is so bloody weird." She repeated it to herself quietly as she went out, keeping her gaze on the floor as she walked through the living room, not noticing Harry walking in a similar fashion, until they ran into each other. Becca burst out laughing as she fell onto the floor, getting up quickly. They stood for a minute awkwardly before Becca suggested,
"Uh, want to go on a walk?" Harry nodded.
"Sure." Becca and Harry went out the door and started walking randomly.
"So, was it awkward for you?" She asked, taking a skipping step.
"Ha, that's no way to describe it. Your dad is so intimidating it's ridiculous. I was so nervous I'm sure I was stuttering the entire time." Becca laughed and then asked,
"D-uhm, do you want to hold hands?" As an answer, Harry picked up her hand and interlaced their fingers, lifting their joined hands and kissing hers lightly. She flushed and smiled, looking down at the ground. Then she said,
"I really really like you. Just, ya know, thought I should say that." Harry smiled gently.
"I really really like you too." Becca smiled, and they talked for a good long while before going back to Becca's house.
"Do you want to stay for dinner? Just a warning you probably will be teased by my brothers...and warned by Joe." She asked, not really wanting to let go of his hand. Harry nodded, he also didn't really want to leave.
"My mum is out of town so there's no one home but me, so sure. It'd be nice. Especially if I get to spend more time with you." Becca flushed then laughed.
"You make me blush a lot." She commented, not really complaining. Harry laughed now, and replied,
"Well that's good, right?"
"As long as you do NOT call me babe. I detest that name and don't you dare call me it. No one calls me that except my old Tae Kwon Do teacher used to call me baby because I was like a daughter or something." Harry nodded.
"As long as you don't call me anything dumb." Becca raised an eyebrow.
"Oh is that a challenge?" Harry shook his head, making his shoulder length hair fling out. Becca laughed at this, and asked,
"Are you ever gonna cut that hair? Or are you just letting it grow." He shrugged.
"I'm just letting it grow. If it gets really long I might cut it for charity. It probably grows faster than yours." He teased. Becca raised her eyebrow.
"Is that a challenge?" Harry now nodded.
"Yep."
"Oh it is on, Mister Styles." She joked, and they went inside.
