I walked out of the bathroom, leaving the towel in the laundry basket on the way out. I quietly made my way toward Lauren’s room, not wanting to interrupt her. I knew that as soon as I went to get in the shower she was going to begin to rewrite the music I had destroyed only a week ago. I stood in front of her door, trying to hear as she softly sang lyrics I’d never heard.

Made up my mind to make a new start,

Going to California with an aching in my heart.

Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes

 and flowers in her hair.

I walked in her room without knocking and stood in the doorframe.

“Ever heard of knocking?” She teased.

“I-I didn’t think you would let me come in if I did.” I explained. She raised her eyebrow in confusion but brushed it off. “Were you uhm writing music?” I stuttered already knowing the answer.

“Yeah I am.” She said uneasily.

“Will I get to hear it?” I asked already knowing the answer.

“Ha, no.” She snapped.

“Why?” I asked knowing I shouldn’t provoke her.

“Look Logan just let it go okay?” She scoffed. I nodded in response, not wanting to edge her on. I walked over to her bed sitting at the end while she sat up straight, leaning against the headboard. “The Jingle Bell Ball is coming up soon, you know?” She said, changing the subject.

“Yeah, isn’t it in London or something?” I questioned.

“It is. The plane ride is dreadful and the food isn’t even THAT great.” She said with a giggle. I laughed lightly along with her. It was so weird. The way she acted I mean. One second she was happy and giggling and the next she was an angry and bitter. I just didn’t get her. Lauren caught on to my silence and decided to address it. “What’s wrong?” She asked in almost a whisper.

“Nothing. Well, I don’t know. I don’t get you I guess.” I said simply. She raised her eyebrow again, which she does when she is confused suppose.

“You don’t get me? What does that mean?” She said putting an emphasis of disgust on that.

“See, like, one second we are joking around and the next you’re mad at me. I don’t understand it I guess. You’re just really complicated. My mom always told me that men will never understand women because they are such complex creatures and typically it’s easy to figure out what a girl is thinking because she is an open book. But with you; with you it’s different. It’s like a suspense story except some pages are left blank. It’s as if I am left to fill in the gaps in that story. I try and figure you out but I just can’t. I never know if what I say will be the right thing. Somehow you manage to be all emotions at once and stay beautiful.” I said.

“You think I’m beautiful?” She asked, a small smile playing on her lips.

“No- I said you were complicated.” I defended myself.

“No, I’m pretty sure you said I was beautiful.” She said, her smile growing.

“Well you can think what you want.” I said a smile forming on my face.

“I’m glad I keep you chasing then.” She said with a wink. I watched as she stood up and headed out of her bedroom door.

“Where are you going?” I called after her.

“To finish baking.” She answered.

~ The next week ~

After leaving Lauren’s that night we hadn’t spoken again for another week. Gina texted me letting me know the Jingle Bell Ball was on Saturday and I was expected to attend with Lauren. Our flight was leaving tonight and I must say I was extremely nervous. For starters I had no idea how to dance and I didn’t really know any of the girls’ songs. While they were performing I was hoping I wasn’t expected to sing along because that would not end well. I walked into Lauren and Camila’s apartment as if I lived there. I was greeted by a very cheerful Camila.
