Bellona POV:"Venus are you sure you're ready?" I watched her as she geared up for a training exercise on the surface.
"I'll be fine, Bel. It's just basics. Leo also wants to show me how to get home in case I get lost again." She rolled her eyes. "Did Donnie ever explain why he couldn't find me using the biosignatures like he did with you guys?"
"He said something had scrambled the signature. He wasn't sure why. But you're changing the subject." Venus rolled her eyes as Leo walked up to her, smiling. He was happier now, almost blissful. He pulled Venus close and she blushed. I rolled my eyes. " I'll leave you two alone for a minute." I walked off to find Raph, who stood at the main entrance with Mikee and two... humans?
"Um Raph?" I said quietly. He glanced back at me and grinned, that mischeviously cocky grin he gets when he wants to take on the world. The one that drove me crazy.
"Hey, Bella. Come on over, I want you to meet Casey and April." He waved me over.
"Casey and April are here?" I turned to see Leo and Venus behind me, his arm draped around Venus both loving and protecting. Venus looked over at the two humans as I did and her eyes widened.
"Oh! That's what an April is. Mikee mentioned her before. I thought she might have been another mutant." She said softly as the three of us walked over. I looked at the two humans, curious. Mikee grinned at us.
"Bellona, Venus, Meet Casey Jones and April O'neill." The woman with the red hair stood tall and held out her hand. Venus took it with hers. The Man looked me over, like he was gauging my abilities. It irked me.He turned and whispered something to Raph, who shoved him a little with a slight blush across his cheeks.
"It's nice to finally meet you. Donnie has been keeping us in the loop with everything. Speaking of which, where is he? He wanted to me to meet Athena." Mikee led her off to the lab. Venus turned to Leo.
"We should probably get going if we are going to be back before daybreak." Leo nodded and Casey perked up.
"Where you guys going?" He questioned and I grinned inwardly. He catches on quick.
"Training. Showing her the city a bit." Leo said quickly. Casey grinned.
"I have the perfect training opportunity. There has been a lot of Purple Dragon activity down by the docks lately. I didn't want to mention it while you guys were helping the ladies here, but it could be a chance for you guys to train." Leo actually looked like he was contemplating it. Raph chimed in.
"I wouldn't mind takin' on some Purple Dragons. Easy pickin's." I looked at him.
"How easy?" He grinned and I knew I was going to enjoy this. The four of us geared up and followed Casey back up to the surface.
Athena POV:
"Athena? Where are you?" Donnie's voice called from somewhere in the lab. I sat at a desk at the back of the room.
"Back here Donnie! Also could you bring me a acetylene welder?" I heard the rattle of cords and metal, followed by footsteps. He rested the blow torch beside me and rested a hand on my shoulder. I smiled up at him. He bit his lip as he looked at me. He leaned in as if he were going to kiss me.
"Whatcha' working on?" Mikee's voice rang from nearby. Both of us jumped as he rounded the corner, a silly oblivious grin on his face. I rolled my eyes and looked at Donnie to explain in simple English, but he was in a daze. I glanced back and noticed the human woman.
"April? What are you doing here?" He grinned and walked over to hug her. I was so confused. He knew the human? "Oh! April, this is Athena, the one I told you about. Athena this is April, she's a friend of ours."
"I can tell," I smiled at him, letting the smile seep into my words but not my eyes. He must have sensed my unease because he came over and took my hand. I blushed. April smiled, and I relaxed some. I would have to find out later what happened between the two of them.
"Uh, I'm just gonna go then?" Mikee looked at all of us and then left. April laughed a little.
"So what are you working on that would need a blow torch? Some sort of welding?" She walked closer. Her hair was a deep ruby red, eyes bright with curiosity.
"Uh, I'm working a sort of tracker. What with all the issues with biosignature searches, it would make finding us easier if we get lost. The only issue I'm having is signal scrambling. "
"What kind of signal are you using?" April pulled up a chair beside me and I looked at her slightly confused. "I used a signal of my own design using low band Utrom signals, off their normal frequency. I'm tried to tie them to the Utrom Technology inside my sisters and I, but I found it would be easier to create a marker to place on each turtle, that way we can include the boys as well. The only problem is the alloy conversion isn't going correctly, so I have to weld together a casing to make it attachable. And making it small enough to not hinder motion. There are so many parameters." April followed my babbling almost to the second. She glanced at my work.
"What about infusing the Utrom tech to a common alloy like copper. You have the tracker complete correct?" I nodded, watching her in slight fasination. "Then you could just down the size ratio and attach the tracker say, just under the edge of the front shell plate, above the heart."
"That could also be used to measure life signs. Heart rate, breathing. I could upgrade them to do that with a simple conversion. Wouldn't take too long. Plus with the flat style of the Utrom tech, I could easily attach a copper border to it that could be used to attach the piece to the shell. Donnie, do we have copper?" He opened his mouth to respond, but April chimed in before he could.
"There's some over here. I'll grab it for you." She walked back through a few of the maze like shelves of Donnie's lab. I turned to him.
"What just happened?" He smiled at me and placed a sweet kiss on my forehead.
"That is how we get a lot of the things from the human world. She's a scientist, like us. I'll tell you how we met later. It's a long story." He had a slight blush on his cheeks. I was still uneasy about Donnie's reaction to her, but I would admit, she is brilliant.
And that scares me.
