Well, here goes nothing.
I stay in step behind my mother as she leads me from the chambers all the way to the other side of the Castle, to the throne room. I keep my eyes on the floor in front of me as we walk. Her long dark purple robe is flowing behind her, sweeping the floor back and forth elegantly. I look down as I follow her, watching my long gown doing the same, swaying back and forth at my feet, sweeping the floor.
I wonder who my father chose for me to marry. Hope he is nice to me.
Sounds of celebration fill the halls as we approach the throne room and the ballroom. I have learned the castle has a ballroom when I heard some maids chatting about a party being set up there just now.
Actually, a party sounds good right about now. That should keep my mind from going insane for a while.
I lift my head up when several maids nestle past me. They are carrying several plates of food and party decorations, moving quickly in the direction I am going.
Must be heading to the ballroom now.
"This party is going to be the best one we have had in generations, sister!" One of them says, laughing. She is wearing a bright pink hood and cape.
The other one in a dark blue hood and cape said, "I know right! I am glad the handsome commander found the Princess and brought her back! Now those threats towards us will cease!"
My stomach ties itself up into knots. I knew that I had caused my home planet turmoil for being selfish and escaping like that, but it hadn't really sunk in until I heard it being talked about without fingers being pointed at me.
Little hooded children rush past me with large smiles on their faces. Their hoods have been blown back showing their faces, revealing their happiness. I feel a little better being here now, seeing that my return has brought peace back to my home planet. I hope I can make my father happy to see me again. I would give anything to see my father smile at me.
Even if it is for one time only.
After we turn the next corner, the throne room opens up before me. It is decorated for a large party. The entire city must be coming tonight.
That's crazy.
I slow my pace as I find myself looking at all of the decorations hanging from the walls and ceiling. The room is full of hooded men and women, dancing, talking and gathering around the long tables off to the sides where the food is being placed.
My eyes are tracing along the banners scattered across the walls, reading things like 'Faith', 'Love' and 'Peace'. Then my eyes fall onto the King sitting in his throne on the opposite side of the room. The Queen who had been leading me here has walked over to him and is speaking to him. One of the things she says to him, he has nodded to in agreement.
