Chapter 6: The Call

Chapter 6

Jace

I get to study hall and take my normal seat. Brayden comes in and ask, "Is new girl sitting with us today?"

"Her name is Cassidy," I correct him, "and yes she is. I think so at least." After this morning I'm not sure if she really wants to be anywhere near me. I'm guessing it's because of what she saw with Ashley and me but she was acting like something else was bothering her too. I don't know. I messed this one up before it even started.

Brayden shakes his head knowing fully about why I'm a little confused about Cassidy. He pulls out the seat across from me and says, "You really need to get your shit together man! You act like you're all interested in this girl for whatever reason. Then you mess it all up. And now look at you. You're sitting over here stressing about some girl you only seen for a day. I haven't seen you like this over some girl in a long time. So you need to pull it together and stop fuckin' it up before you even get your real first shot at this girl!"

I know everything he's saying is true. I look down at the table and put my hands to my face rubbing it. I'm trying but with this girl...she's different, so I really need to try harder. She's not just going to be an easy score and I want her more than just for one night.

I run my fingers through my hair. It's already messed up so I could care less. My eyebrows are furrowed when I look up to see Cassidy. She was smiling but then it fades away when she asks, "Should I sit somewhere else?"

I look into her eyes intensely. They're blue like the ocean at night. They're gorgeous. Remembering she asked me a question I hurry up and shake my head wildly saying, "No! No! Please, sit!"

Her smile faintly comes back as she takes the chair out sitting down next to me. The late bell rings and we all get started in our homework. Well, Brayden just goes to sleep.

We're about thirty minuets in to the class when the P. A. System comes on saying, "Can Jace Hale please report to the main office." Cassidy looks up to me. I don't think she knows what expression she should have on her face, so she just looks at me with wide eyes.

What could I have possibly done now?

Then Brayden wakes up and says, "What you do now?" I just shake my head and get up closing my books and stuffing them in my book bag while walking away going towards the door. I push pass the library doors and make my way down the empty hall. I enter into the main office and say, "Jace Hale," to the lady at the desk. She nods her head before saying, "Go on in the principal's office, she's waiting for you." I nod and go to open the door to my left.

Once I close the door the principal looks at me with a sad face and I have no idea of what's to come out of her mouth.

She walks around her desk to sit in the chair beside the one I'm sitting in. She looks at me and what she says next...I was not ready for!

When I get to Jaden's school I put the kickstand to motorcycle down and run inside taking off my helmet. I go to the main office and see Jaden sitting on the bench in there. I bend down and hug Jaden close to me. He looks a little confused when I pull back. Did they tell him yet?

I sign Jaden out and head out the door with him. Before we get on the motorcycle I stoop down to be at Jaden's height. I ask him, "Do you know what's going on? Di-did they tell you what happened?" I stutter a little, afraid of the answer.

"No," he answers me, "they said something happened and you're gonna pick me up from school early." I feel relieved that he doesn't know yet. I want to be the one to tell him.
