"Hey there," Jai said, surprised.
"Hey," I said, grinning as I slipped through Jai's window.
Now standing in Jai's bedroom, memories of the few nights I spent there flooded back to me. I couldn't help but miss those days.
"You know you can come through the front door, right?" Jai asked as I went over to his bed.
"I know." I plopped down on his bed, sitting on its edge. "But that's not fun."
Jai rolled his eyes, but he grinned. He walked over to me and sat next to me. As if it was second nature, he then wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me to his side. I couldn't help but smile as his cold arm made me feel safe.
"So, what brings you here?" Jai asked. "You can be honest."
"I wanted to see you."
I was happy to see Jai grin at that, but that wasn't the only reason why I was here. Things at home were tense. My parents treated me like I wasn't their child and they stopped feeding me and everything. Every time I passed by my dad would mutter slut and as much as I tried to ignore it, it eventually wore me down. That was why I was here now. I needed to breathe.
"Need to see this face more often?" Jai asked, smirking,
"Of course," I teased. "Can't get enough of it."
Out of the blue, Jai leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine. He kissed me slowly and passionately, and without a moment to waste, I kissed him back. Placing my hand on the back of his neck, I deepened our kiss as our lips moulded together perfectly. I let out a little gasp at how good it felt.
Jai pulled away suddenly, leaving me frowning at him. We didn't even really get into it and he broke it. I pouted at him.
"Let's not repeat the incident with my dad," Jai said, smiling as he ruffled my hair.
"Oh yeah." I flushed at the memory. "That was so embarrassing."
Jai chuckled. "Don't worry, my dad loves you."
"Really?"
That was a surprise. In my few days here, Jai's dad and I shared a few words. I would often see him staring at a window in deep thought, so I would approach him and ask him about his work and hobbies. He would give me short, uninterested replies, so I assumed he didn't like me.
"Yeah," Jai said. "He's says you're a sweet girl. He thinks you have beautiful eyes too."
"Really?" I said, truly surprised.
I never liked my eyes. They looked worn out and cold, and that wasn't how eyes should look. They should be bright and full of life.
"Can I ask you something?" Jai asked suddenly.
I cocked my head, curious. "Sure."
"What happened to Jared? Do you still talk to him?"
Memories of our fall out flooded back to me and I realized with surprise that I hadn't told Jai about any of it. Not about the day I told Jared to stop talking to me, not when he called me depressed, and not about the brochure incident. I wondered why.
"Oh, yeah," I said, sighing. "I told him not to talk to me anymore and we haven't said much to each other ever since."
"Really? Why?" Jai's eyes widened. "If it's because of me you really didn't have to. I understand that you're here to stay now."
