Lexi ran through the woods, Luk right behind her. She slowed, slumping against a tree in defeat.

"Lex, what did you do?" he asked, his voice full of concern. "I'm gonna call an ambulance."

"No."

"Alexis," Luk started. "It's my job."

"It's also your job to arrest me for attempted murder or assault with a weapon," she said, and she was right.

He ignored the comment, however, and took out his phone.

"Are you gonna turn me in, or what?"

"Or what," he said, cracking a smile.

"They can trace us. Use your pager," she told him, snatching his cell away.

"Fine." For some odd reason he kept his portable on his belt beside his Glock.

He reached down and unclipped it, bringing it up to his mouth.

"Daniels," he said into the little machine.

"Omen," Nicholas Omen, the sheriff, answered.

"Um, I ah. Can you send an ambulance over to Hunter's house?"

"Already did. I'm heading over right now," Nicholas assured him. "Know what happened?"

"No," he lied.

"Aren't you gonna get fired for-" Lexi got cut off by Luk.

"Shh. I'm doing this for you," he whispered.
